Saharan dust is back

The National Weather Institute (Indomet) is reporting the Saharan Dust is back turning the usually blue skies into a misty grey. Indomet expects the situation to prevail until this coming Sunday, 15 June 2025.

The forecast is mixed with rains expected from the eastern province of La Altagracia to Samana in the northeast. Rains are also forecast for Greater Santo Domingo, San Cristóbal, Peravia and Barahona on the southern coast.

Heavier rain is expected in Monte Plata, Sanchez Ramirez, Duarte, San Juan de la Maguana, Santiago, Santiago Rodriguez and Elias Piña provinces.

The only good mention for the dust is it is an obstacle to hurricane formation and lowers hurricane intensity if formed.
