Santiago Monorail advances towards opening in 2025

Engineer Jhael Isa Tavarez, in charge of the Santiago Monorail transportation system project, reported the arrival on 19 January 2024 of the first four cars for the mass transit system in the country’s second largest city. Isa Tavarez says the first tests of the system will be held in April 2024.

The engineer said the tests would extend into 2025 when the service is scheduled to open to the general public.

The first section to open would be from Station 01 in Santiago Oeste (Cienfuegos), to the Central Station on Las Carreras Avenue. From there, it would join the Santiago Cable Car transportation system, whose start of operations is scheduled for March 2024.

Isa Tavarez explained that the builders will soon start adjusting the electromechanical components.

I wish it will be true but since I have been driving in Santiago I don't believe it will be completed in that time.
From Av. Las Carreras to Estación La Fuente on Av. Yapur Dumit almost nothing have been done.
They are working at Puerta # 1 PUCAMYMA/ Infront Villa Olimpica and Av. Yapur Dumit since last year and only a couple concrete columns are in place.
This is a 5 kilometers loop what I am talking about.

They are working right outside my place in Santiago I don't see any progress since I was here last year.

It looks like they will open the first part of the monorail(Cienfuegos to Central cablecar station) before the whole route is complete. The areas you mention are all in the second phase of the project.

Makes sense since the intersection between Estación Central and Cien Fuegos is almost complete.

They really should be considering the idea of extending the monorail from Santiago to Puerto Plata when they build the new expressway.

Imagine tourists getting off a cruise ship and doing a day trip to Santiago.
