I see the same thing when I'm on the guagua. Not a chance I would do that. I don't mind riding on motos but I would never take a bike on the autopista. On the drive to the capital from JD in the mornings there are always 2-3 groups of bikers, looking VERY professional
riding hard in the "bike lane". They move in tandem at a fast clip and I have always wondered about their safety. It CAN'T be safe in any lane the way people drive here in the DR.
I used to see them in Santo Domingo and wondered the same. Also early evening when it was getting dark on Av Sarasota for instance. On the drive to the capital from JD in the mornings there are always 2-3 groups of bikers, looking VERY professional

There have been multiple reports of motorcycles in accidents with themselves, cars, buses, etc. Not one that I can think of regarding a similar bicycle accident.I see the same thing when I'm on the guagua. There are grou-s of bicyclists seen in other parts of the country too, even on the edge of major highways.

Those are organized rides. Usually the vehicle in the back is called a "sag wagon". Hurt, or tired ,gives you a chance to stop peddling.I see bicycle riding groups all the time on Av España. They usually always have a vehicle in the front and rear of the group. Some even have a motor or 2 riding along side. I still would be afraid to ride on the main roads here.
I've seen that too, but not on Av España. I've seen it on the Autopista de Las Americas and some side streets. I think one or 2 times I've seen it they are being used as a pacer.I see bicycle riding groups all the time on Av España. They usually always have a vehicle in the front and rear of the group.
