It was mentioned today in the online news of Bavarodigital.net of a scam in San Jaun Shopping Center that used the bait of gold to rob people. The perpetrators approach victims with the opportunity to buy an ingot of gold. They secretly dust unwary victims with burundanga, a drug, that allows the perps to manipulate the victims to ATM's or banks to withdraw funds to pay for the gold. Of course, the gold is fake.

Qne of the scams is for a person who looks and dresses poor to approach a victim and says he has a friend who has some gold to sell. The poor person mentions the friend will give him a cut if a sale is made. If you are approached. do not... do not touch anything, them, to include the gold and its wrappings. Touching in any manner allows the transfer of the burundanga to you and you become a victim. Best to smile and walk away making sure to thwart any attempts to touch you.

Be aware, stay safe.

Happened to me a beautiful girl started a conversation with me and it turns out we had the same doctor.
While she flirted with me then she slipped me something our doctor provided her, and then she made me make love to her for 4 hours.
Afterwards I decided to call my doctor because they say if you are aroused for 4 hours to call the doctor.
I called him and said "Thank You"

One of the first times in the DR, a guy in Santo Domingo begged me to exchange some pesos for dollars. He said he really needed dollars. I told him I had enough pesos, and did not need any more. I told him to go to the bank if he needed dollars. He said he had "problems" with the bank, and that they did not give him a good exchange rate. He said he would give me a few more pesos to the dollar if I helped him out. I got tired of him, so just to get rid of him, I exchanged $50 for pesos. We talked for a few more minutes, and after he left I needed a drink so I went for a walk to get a water. When I went to pay, the pesos were gone. He must have picked my pocket or pulled some kind of flim flam while exchanging the money.
If anyone needs money exchange, tell them to go to Western Union or the bank and walk away.

As I said already here. I know a girl who came out of Caribe Express on Ave. Espana and got hit with this crap and happily gave all her money and jewelry away. But you have one or two people on DR1 that with no evidence other than their keypad claim it NEVER happened. This stuff is for real......

Before this thread gets locked, my opinion is that the stuff is real and is overreported about 99% of the time.

A girl made me buy her a pair of high-heel shoes and a David Yurman bracelet, she slipped me something but it wasn't a powdery drug.

I hope it doesn't get locked. I love this thread more than the sankie/true love threads.

Many, many men have been drugged and robbed in Colombia with burundanga. In all cases, the men said they were talking to a girl in a bar or had brought a girl back to their room and the girl mus have put something in their drink. It seems that it's only the women who have powder blown in their faces by a friendly "stranger". Hmmmmm.........................

Works for both men and women. Hmmmmm..............

copolamine, also known as burundanga, is a tropical alkaloid produced by species of plants such as Hyoscyamus albus and Datura stramonium.1 Uses of these plants around the world range from food to ornaments to medicinal preparations that take advantage of their strong anticholinergic, antiemetic, and hallucinogenic properties.24 Criminal administration of extracts of Datura has been reported in South America since the 1950s.2 The most intriguing phenomenon seen in burundanga intoxication is not the anticholinergic side effects (ie, mydriasis, confusion, and palpitations), but the submissive and obedient behaviour of the victim.2 This phenomenon is caused by a reduction in declarative memory.5 Criminals typically use burundanga to take their victims on the “million dollar ride,” during which victims submissively withdraw money from a bank machine. The drug is commonly blown in the faces of the victims or placed in their beverages. Victims often surrender their valuables to the criminals without resistance. Neither the victim nor the surrounding people are aware that a crime is being committed and, as a result, there are usually no witnesses. Although it is well known in South America, criminal use of scopolamine has rarely been described in the Canadian primary care literature. This report serves to educate FPs regarding the importance of considering scopolamine intoxication in the setting of amnesia and anticholinergic toxidrome.
