Second case of cholera: Haitian 4-year old

The Ministry of Public Health alerted to the second reported case of cholera in the country, a four-year old Haitian child. Epidemiologist Francisca Kasse said the child is stable, in good spirits and has an appetite. The child has not had a bowel movement in the past 24 hours. The Department of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Public Health confirmed the case on Monday, 21 November.

The minor had entered the country on Friday, 18 November through Dajabón. The child was admitted to the Padre Fantino hospital in Montecristi. He had come from Port-au-Prince, Haiti where he had experienced symptoms of the disease for two days.

Upon arrival at the hospital, the patient presented watery and whitish diarrhea, vomiting, dry mouth, weak pulse and drowsiness. He was immediately hydrated and stabilized, then a stool sample was taken and tested positive for cholera yesterday...
