Still, a big city like Santiago and there's only one private clinic that accepts SENASA(?). Not a good sign.
Remember, there is no alternative for many older people. Certainly way better than nothing.

The Dominican government is getting the word out in the USA. Just yesterday someone contacted Mr AE to let him know there will be a meeting soon not far from us, led by the Dominican embassy (or consulate, I forget which) to help people with SENASA or any other paperwork for or from DR. Q&A, signups, etc.

They’re really making an effort.

Are we sure residents are eligible?
I thought it was citizens only.......

The basic plan doesn't do much.... not accepted in many places.
Paid plans are a bit better....but hardly universal

I gave up trying to get a paid plan
They test 65+ applicants so pre-existing conditions will be denied

What is SeNaSa Larimar?

SeNaSa Larimar is the health insurance offered to Dominicans, foreigners (nationalized or with a passport) who wish to acquire an independent plan, as well as for the Dominican diaspora that returns permanently or wants to obtain medical coverage for their family in the country.
With this plan, SeNaSa offers its voluntary members (individuals and families) an excellent value for money, with a wide catalog of more than 3,000 health services provided through a national network of nearly 8,000 doctors, clinics, laboratories and private diagnostic centers.

It mentions, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual payments, so it doesn't appear to be free(?). How much are the premiums?

Well, I can almost swear the free, basic plan is citizens only.

Buying a plan may be possible but the clinic availability is so poor.

We have a very good public clinic in Abreu but their services are very limited.... they send you on for anything special

Well, I don't understand that. I went with my Dominican friend to the office in Puerto Plata, where she signed up, and she hasn't paid anything.

I just asked a good Dominican friend of mine. He told me SENASA has two plans - a free one and one you pay for. He said the free one only works at public hospitals whereas the paid one will work at private clinics.

Works anywhere it is accepted..... a rather short list outside of public hospitals
A rather long list of private clinics was posted by NALS(I think?), but, according to my Dominican friend, the free versions only works at public hospitals(maybe some exceptions), whereas the paid version works at private clinics.
