Two Spanish sailors and one Serbian were rescued in the Atlantic Ocean and brought to the Dominican Republic on Tuesday, 14 August 2024 in the morning, according to a Dominican Navy press release. The men were rescued by the Chinese cargo vessel Xin Ah Ning after being adrift.
After a short detour for the rescue operation, the ship continued on its route to Haina Port in the Dominican Republic. The Europeans were met at the port by Dominican Navy officials and Spanish consular representatives and medical personnel.
Medical personnel determined that Juan Manuel Pérez Santana and Nikola Nicolic, the Spanish and Serbian nationals respectively, were in good health. However, David Gómez Pérez, also Spanish, sustained a knee injury during the rescue.
