The first thing that needs to happen is for US Congress to put it for sale.
Puerto Rico is a Country ?
I did not know that ..

Were Alaska and Hawaii also " Countries "?

asking for a friend ..

by the way, if you are referring to Greenland . and all that

Its an autonomous territory under Denmark..

And I hope they DO sell Puerto Rico ... no one needs that Island , nothing but Problems .
Do anyone in Alaska or Hawaii call those places a country?

Many Puerto Ricans do, even in PR TV news they reference to PR as “el país.” You will never hear that in a US state.

Plus, PR is a country, they simply aren’t independent. Unlike US states, independence is one of the options available when it comes to PR. In fact, the reason that is an option is why every few years a plebiscite is done in PR where the population vote if they want things to stay how they are, become a state or become independent. No such thing exist in Alaska or Hawaii or the other 48 states.

As for whether the DR should buy PR, first thing it needs to be for sale. Then the average Puerto Rican need to be comfortable with that. Otherwise it will be like when the DR returned to Spain. Remember the War of Restoration? That didn’t appeared out of thin air.

I'm starting to wish the overstay conversation kicks back up .This is a new level
I would, but I realize the government only cares about illegals when they are Haitians. Tourist card illegals are not on the radar since the government does not care about them.

"tis true this is the dumbest thread in a while.

When did it get into the common lexicon that countries are for sale? Is this a case of "if you say something stupid enough times, it becomes true?"
It happened in the past like over a 100 years ago or something. I don't think any country is proud of that practice in their history and don't condone it now. Today it is maybe meant as a negotiation tactic. Intimidation from the super powers. Before they invade.

Well, just next to Puerto Rico are the US Virgin Islands. The US bought them from Denmark. Yep, took out the checkbook.

In fact, now that I think of it, Americans have acquired quite a bit of land via the checkbook.

Doubled its territory by buying Louisiana (was much bigger than the current Louisiana) from France.
Bought some extra land from Mexico (I think after conquering most of what is now the west.)
Bought Alaska from Russia.

While the DR may never buy Puerto Rico, the US could strike another deal with Denmark, this time for Greenland.

PS. This tendency of the US buying land could be an influence from colonial times. Land was bought from many Native American tribes. True, often for worthless things, but it was a sale. The Indians were happy even if their current descendants aren’t too happy how the deals were done.

PS2. As for giving land away, that‘s a Dominican thing, not American. See how Haiti got Hinche et al…

Taking a point from a playbook of the next POTUS. Comical isn't it. People love their "What If" scenarios,

Bad enough the DR is planning to sell electricity to PR when it can't keep the lights on 24/7 here.
Maybe Puerto Rico will actually pay for the energy they consume. What is the percentage paid in the DR. It used to be 40% in the late 90's. 40% stolen and 20% in line loss. Not sure how the privatization of the distribution of electricity to the homes and businesses has impacted this situation. I don't see a lot of metering where I go.

It is just a dumb thread. No outrage at all. I think the DR purchasing Greenland would work much better than the almost failed island of Puerto Rico.

Speaking of imperialism, a country hanging on to an archaic Kingdom mentality with Frederik (a real "Casanova" if you know what I mean 🤫). Moreover, Denmark has been overty suppressing the people of Greenland by stymieing their economic development for decades. Not to mention that among the good folks of Greenland, the consensus is to be rid of Denmark altogether, US or not.

Yes independent. They almost are. Then afterwards maybe modern day imperialism moves in and bullies them and appoints Don Jr as governor haha
