Yes independent. They almost are. Then afterwards maybe modern day imperialism moves in and bullies them and appoints Don Jr as governor haha
Hush hush.
No need to distort facts with feelings.

The last time I was in Puerto Rico everything was for sale...
and I do mean everything.

Make them a legit offer and I'll bet they'd be willing to sell it on the spot.

It will be interesting either way. To see if it becomes a norm to take over countries/territory with an offer they can't refuse.

When is the last time you were in Puerto Rico? The island has a serious problem with gun crime, drugs, needles and HIV. I honestly feel sorry for the people who are stuck there.

I have been there once over 10 years ago. I didn't see that much but I wasn't that impressed with what I saw. It was interesting that some Puerto Ricans seems to envy the Dominicans - something I have also felt meeting them in the DR. They wish maybe they had that independence.

I would, but I realize the government only cares about illegals when they are Haitians. Tourist card illegals are not on the radar since the government does not care about them.

"tis true this is the dumbest thread in a while.
yes and don't forget the tourist card the government makes money especially with the increase prices

PR is very unimpressive for a Caribbean location. Been there twice and no need to go again. The last time, my wife wanted to visit some illegal Dominicans there that we knew from the Sosua region. They were working construction. I would highly advise against anyone buying PR.

The amount of money illegal overstayers pay in fines when they leave is insignificant in the revenue stream of the DR government.
That amount could not even buy San Juan, let alone PR in its entirety.

There have been factions in PR that want independence. I liken them to Quebecois folks that want their own "island" in the Great White North. Others in PR that want all the benefits of US statehood and that would be a money pit for the US government. And so it goes.

So Puerto Rico is not of much value. As opposed to Canada, Greenland and the Panama Canal. What about Haiti ?

The first thing that needs to happen is for US Congress to put it for sale.

Do anyone in Alaska or Hawaii call those places a country?

Many Puerto Ricans do, even in PR TV news they reference to PR as “el país.” You will never hear that in a US state.

Plus, PR is a country, they simply aren’t independent. Unlike US states, independence is one of the options available when it comes to PR. In fact, the reason that is an option is why every few years a plebiscite is done in PR where the population vote if they want things to stay how they are, become a state or become independent. No such thing exist in Alaska or Hawaii or the other 48 states.
Another case in point, Osvaldo Ríos (Puerto Rican) was recently interviewed in SD by Colombia Alcántara and listen how he referís to his native Puerto Rico starting at 6:07.

People can call PR whatever they like, but calling it a country is incorrect:

Puerto Rico, officially the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, is a self-governing Caribbean archipelago and island organized as an unincorporated territory of the United States under the designation of commonwealth

Puerto Rico is not a country; it is an unincorporated territory of the United States, which means it has a unique political status that is neither fully independent nor a U.S. state. Puerto Ricans are U.S. citizens but do not have full voting rights in federal elections.

The DR should stay as far away from PR as possible and should not even sell electricity to PR.

It’s a country. Being US citizens means nothing regarding that since anyone born to a US citizen anywhere in the world is a US citizen by virtue of at least one of their parents is one. Matters little if it happens in the USA or elsewhere.

On another note, near the end (1:11:42) Osvaldo mentions about the part of the lyrics of one of Bad Bunny’s songs about what happened to Hawaii* and made it clear that’s not what Puerto Ricans want. He says no one wants for Puerto Ricans to essentially become a minority on their own island. He said Puerto Ricans don’t want Americans or anyone else (except Puerto Ricans) to stay with Puerto Rico.

* Native Hawaiians been reduced in Hawaii due to emigration but most importantly immigration of mainland Americans.

Puerto Rico definitely has a strong culture just like the DR. Look at all the artists from Puerto Rico.
