Should Juan Carlos get residencia dominicana?

Juan Carlos was a king of Spain. He is suspected of tax evasion, corruption and bribery on a very large scale. Anyone else would have been prosecuted for what he did.
Does such person deserve the residencia in the DR?
How would his bienvenida go along with the supposed anti-corruption stance of Abinader?
How would his presence here influence the relations between the DR and Spain?

King Juan Carlos I was the first Spanish king (along with his wife Quern Sofia) that crossed the Atlantic. His very first trip once becoming king of Spain in the 1970's was make a tour of Latin America (exclusively in the former Spanish Empire) and the very first place where the plane landed was Santo Domingo. According to him, it was fitting for the first place in the Americas that he stepped was in Santo Domingo, given that it was the door to Spain in the New World.

The bridge at Santo Domingo Este, near where the highway takes a turn inland and inessence passes under the bridge, is named after him.

He and his wife has visited the DR on multiple ocassions since then, as official trips and as personal leasure trips. His wife, Queen Sofia, even said once that they like a lot the DR, which explains the constant trips the couple made to the country (they are kind of the European version of the Clinton's, lol.)

He has been present at the inauguration of every Dominican President since his first trip to America in the 1970's.

Because of their constant trips to the DR, the current King Felipe VI of Spain, his son, always visits the DR when he travels anywhere in the Americas, whether an official trip or simply stopping by.

With such a support of the DR, why not? He should be given Dominican citizenship in the same way Gilberto Santa Rosa got it a fewyears ago, through a presidential decree. No need to apply or anything as normal people do.

Its widely known that many people in this forum are neither of Dominican or Spanish extraction, and are in a way ignorant of even recent historical realities of the DR, even after some have lived in the DR for many years. Reality is that the relationship between the DR and Spain has been extremely good, in part, due to King Juan Carlos I himself.

Like I said before, in some ways King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia are the European version of Bill and Hillary Clinton. lol

He, more than anybody, is the reason why the relationship between the DR and Spain has remained so good. Given that reality, it's not surprising the DR is such a high priority for him as a place to move away from Spain.

OK, I recognize that the relationship to Spain is close and vivid, but the true reason for that are not the whims of some king but the fact the Spain is the only country in Europe where Dominicans can work and study without learning a foreign language.

THere's nothing like an "influencer" to restart a business. In this case the business is the business of tourism. If the DR is good enough for him what will all the wannabe kings from Queens NY think. I think this is a tad bigger than a altered drink in the room scandal.

He should have arrived inn the airport of Santo Domingo.

And many supermarket (for example, Super Pola is named after the town of Pola, Spain; from where the creator of the firm is from; or La Sirena is actually a name and store that was first brought to Santo Domingo by a Spanish immigrant who moved his La Sirena single store from Spain to the DR, later sold it to the current owner who turned it into the hypermarket chain it is today) and hypermarket chains, major hardware stores, major Dominican rum companies (most are in fact Spanish lastnames, such as Brugal or Barceló), collaboration of Spanish engineering firms in the construction of many highways and/or major bridges, insurance firms, the Metro of Santo Domingo was built with partnership,with the Metro de Madrid (not only was a team sent from there to plan and construct the SD Metro, but the stations are very similar to the ones in Madrid and the trains are the same model of the Metro of Barcelona; these things are not coincidence). Reality is that without Spain there is no DR and no Dominicans. It is the country that has influenced the most in Dominican society in the past and in the present, and as extensive as it is economically, it also spreads into other aspects of the DR.

Many people simply don't know just how extensive it is. Anyone that lives in the DR, unless they never leave their house, can't have a life without using or being a part of something, often times multiple things, that exist precisely because of help from the Spanish.

all those "famous" move only for benefit, like normal working folks only work for money.
some get a free residency by president's degree, others get their residency çause of a huge chunk of money moved into teh DR from elsewhere,
others are a valuable assett simply due their well known name drawing in more such famous people to spend their millionaire retirement moeys or do big investments in the DR.
Juan Carlos is one of those mid centuries left overs, a "King", who in todays times 'seriously gives a thing on a King, Queen, Princess etc?

he is a well known personality with wide reaching connections, to have him here with the so many other"famous", couldn't hurt, I say.
