Hundreds of thousands use the Santo Domingo Metro and Omsa buses every day. Now the government says that to board these public services, people will have to show a vaccination card. Digital vaccination cards will be accepted, too.
The measure was announced as part of new preventive actions taken by the government now that the country is no longer under a National State of Emergency.
People can get vaccinated at several Metro stations open during most of the service schedules.
Vaccination cards will be requested as of 18 October 2021 to enter stores, schools, and government offices.
The objective is to encourage more people to get vaccinated. The government has stocks of vaccines for all living in the Dominican Republic, but still millions have yet to get the vaccines. So far, around 59% of the population has the two vaccines.
