They have no maintenance budget? Stupid planning.
As I've said before, the town mayors have next to nothing of funds available to them. The small amount they have barely covers payroll of the municipal employees and not much more.

They proved long ago they have 0 ability to manage a budget, so almost all funds come from the central govt.

So as per the central govt, sending new garbage trucks is more cost effective than either to supply necessary parts/labor or requesting the existing trucks to be returned to the capital for repair?

I've seen reports for every possible govt vehicle to be abandoned due to missing repairs, so this is not just garbage trucks. Ambulances, police vehicles, everything.

Yep. You guessed it. The old stuff is sold for scrap.

They just bought a couple of hundred vehicles a few days ago, but I don't think there were any garbage trucks.

You should follow the daily news here.

This makes me sad. Why does the gov't doesn't do anything at all? The people in the area deserve a clean street so they can safe to walk and browse around the city. I believe this is near the end of the line Line 1B (Mama Tingo Station) I assume?

That is why I keep saying that "You can't just have nice things, anymore. The power people above us dont do jack shyt but worry about themselves".

This is Ayuntamiento's fault, not by central Gov.

Carolina (the current City Mayor) is pro middle class and upscale areas (actually who reelected her last year) and only serves those neighborhoods and the ones who pay their services to the City Hall.

The only major thing that she did with low income areas was revamping Duarte and Paris avenues but that was a initiative from last major and now Minister of Tourism, David Collado.

Totally opposite with Santiago when Ulises (who replaced Abel Martinez policies) and tried to do the same, but Santiagueros aren't like that and almost boycotted him and put pressure to keep continuity of Abel's policies of serving the entire city. cc @NALs

Thank goodness the SDE mayor is taking action!

What's wrong with this picture?

The alcalde says if you hit this, it's because you're drunk or a drug addict.

When was that pic taken? That's not normal for SDEste. It looks like Avenida Espana.

One of the worst implementations ever.

AMET and INTRANT and Interior already had a "meeting" with Mayor Astacio. It's a symptom on how Gov officers aren't aligned at all.

Typical Dominican, solving one issue while creating another issue.
Obviously the best solution will be concrete barriers around the dumpster so vehicles can not hit it.

Start a nationwide anti littering campaign, using TV ads, social media, radio, endorsements from hip famous Dominicans like musicians, athletes, celebs, with its own slogan and catchy jingle.
Then beat it into their brains for years.
And more, much more zafacons

I want to say that this news is beyond that. Read the original article, I cannot believe, even by DR standards, that a person who has some authority or power has actually said what they said. Again, even by DR standards. It's really sad for SDE. I mean, any sane person only sees a serious safety hazard in the photo.

EDIT: Talking about mayors, I'm no fan of politics but I do think that Roquelito in POP had done a very decent job. Many things I have seen are in fact much better ever since he took over from Walter Musa.
