For the most part, what I have gotten in the DR I call "empty nadas".

I will have to try the ones across from Plan B.

The best empanadas I ever had were on Margarita Island. They actually had meats or fish and spices in them.

Yes, that was the first place I had empanadas and I was spoiled. Really good.

Just for clarification... A shop on Alejo Martinez between the entrance of the old Orange/Altice plaza next to Banco Popular before the turn to the beach and Pedro Clissante but not in Colonial Plaza itself? Thx.
No. On Alejo Martinez just PAST Colonial Plaza.

The ones across from Plan B are tasty but lack filling, another "emptynada",D'Rosy's has twice the filling...

Well, there ya go. Not much filling and some taste. Can't expect a complete realization here. Reminds me of the best pizzas.

Update. There is a new empanada queen in town,D'Rosy Empanadas, all they do is empanadas. They have 15 varieties and have more filling than any of the other places/people that sell them in Sosua albeit they are more expensive, they will fry them fresh for you too. They are located on Alejo Martinez down past Plaza Colonial otherwise known as the Orange Plaza near the barber shop.
Stopped in today. Most empanadas at D'Rosy are $RD60 some varieties are $70 each. Didn't buy enough to see if I could swing a bulk purchase price. There definitely will be a next time. Thanks for mentioning this place Tom, the empanadas are very good and much more robust than those offered in the colmado across from plan B. I hope they can make a go of this business and stay in operation.

D'Rosy is new. Just noticed it was there. Big sign painted on front, very easy to find. Walk from the park toward Banco Popular. Before you get to the plaza where Orange used be, u will see it. Almost directly across the street from the WeCare farmacia. When I passed I saw a sign saying the special for the day was lamb.

The special of the day was Lambi(conch). No lamb there.

there was a woman in puerto plata near the javilla where they fixed all the motercycles. SHe later moved to near there the near Plaza Lama. I have never had better empanadas. ALways 15 min wait. I have been trying to find her to get the recipe.
Maybe someone could post a really good recipe. I am not crazy about the columbian empanadas.

Yesterday two of my friends and I went to D'Rosy's for the first time. We were all impressed with both size and taste. The place
across from Plan B charges 35 pesos for empanadas with very little filling whereas D'Rosy's charges 60 pesos with at least four
times the filling. So D'Rosy's gets 3 very enthusiatic thumbs up.

At the time we were in there yesterday afternoon, they were not making them to order. Only those already in the case. So many
types were not available.

D'Rosy now has a FB post about the shop, so available selection is probably going to take another hit. As you say, the product is quite good so here's hoping they can figure out how to keep the empanadas fresh and available for purchase by walk in customers. I may have to see if it is possible to place an order for my favorite varieties the day before I want them.

I'll try them this week. Might be my new after-the-gym protein snack!

On the way into Cabarete from Sosua, before the gas station, there is a couple ( I think maybe either French or French Canadian ) selling cooked-to-order empanadas along the side of the road. Lots of choices and lots of filling. Probably not worth driving for - but if you are passing by, they are really good. D'Rosy's are good but not cooked-to-order.

Yes, they are father and daughter (French and Belgian), members of my family. Their empanadas are really really good, and they cook them in front of you, so always fresh made.

Monday to Friday from 8.00 to 12.00, 50 pesos each (and they are not small).

Don't hesitate to stop by, you will not regret!
