My home network is Claro wireless which is actually a cell phone connection, I get 10 there but it drops like crazy. Many times as often as every 2-3 minutes depending on how many others are using the tower the signal comes from. Insane.

Some enjoy popping into any banca in town to ask the dominicana “hay recarga?” Different strokes for different folks.

Greetings,
I've been to Sosua countless times since 2005 to pre-covid but never stayed more than 2 weeks ; now it seems that I'll relocate to be based over there for at least few months, so I will ask a few SIM related questions, and I thank you in advance:
- Is it easy to buy and load a SIM, are there any requirements beside cash ? If yes, what would that be?
- What carrier would you recommend as having the most reliable service ?
- For an average of 5 local calls a day and 2-3 hours of data what would be the approximate amount of pesos that I need to load on the SIM for a month of usage.
I pay 906pesos a month for viva mifi 3MB/s internet. And then I put in an altice recarga card for any local calls that i need to make (which in my case is not too many). If you have the viva internet you can just call everyone over whatsapp that they use everywhere in the dr. That will make your frequency of local calls even lower. And that 2-3hours of data will depend on what you are doing with that data...if its whatching youtube vs browsing the internet, you will use more data on youtube. (thats why the mifi is good)

Another option is just to get paqueticos... 150$ for 5 days "unlimited" data on your cellphone (altice). and you can judge from there if you want to get a higher or lower plan after that... all companies have similar prepaid plans.

You have to check their service maps to see which company has service where.. but then that is almost like playing at the casino. For reliable service, you will hear horror stories from clients of all the telecom companies here.
