I've eaten there twice now over the last few weeks.
DELICIOUS food.
GREAT presentation.
GOOD prices.
I enjoyed the music....however I know they are going to start having a new DJ in there a few times a week.
They are starting Karaoke on Friday's.
And they have dance lessons (bachata, merengue & salsa) on Saturday's.
The speaker system there has to be one of the best I have seen in this country.
The service was very good...until we asked for the cheque...it took awhile to come. But otherwise I give this place 2 thumbs up. And no real complaints.
This is for sure one of my new fav. places. I will be a repeat customer for sure!!!!

simply red once again...simply red never again

Last night we went here to eat once again with another couple. Once again the food was very good, once again the presentation of the food was excellent, once again the prices were very good, once again the service was very good and ONCE AGAIN the music was so loud that we could in no way carry on a normal conversation at the dinner table. Once again we asked for the music to be lowered, once again it was for a couple of minutes but the was loud again. Having a very nice dinner with friends and having to yell across the table was not my idea of a relaxing dinner out. So inspite of the food, prices, service for us it will be NEVER again!

You won't hear any Bachata/Reggaeton/Merengue in Rocky's, Britannia, Checkpoint, Shark Bar or Jolly Rodger's. Shark Bar uses satellite radio and it seems well worth the money.

ON Saturday 20 March 2010

It was, for us, a very good "high-end" meal. The prices were comparatively low. The service was good. The ambience was OK. The music was at a good (low) level. (The vari-coloured overhead lighting might do with a re-think.) Low price means in this case: Beef (Chateaubriand), Pork (a la Mostoza), potatoes (could have been rice), veggies, big salad, two (large) copas of excellent vino tinto, three presidente pequenas, bottle of soda water all for 1200 RD. I couldn?t find that quantity and quality of food for two persons for $35.00 anywhere in our small town or in the big city near to us. Took the orts home and had them for lunch the following day. We didn?t have room for the much-touted, Belgian-chocolate dessert.

Maybe the loud music is during the week. It was certainly not a problem on that Saturday evening.

In fact I'm nearer to seventy and have always shunned loud music. It actually makes me nauseous. Perhaps the reasonable quiet on that Saturday evening is because it was domincano dance night. You can dance with and or be coached by a domincano. That may be part of it.

Let me ask though: Did anyone ever ask Filip to turn down the music? He's there most of the time and almost always in the evenings apparently. Did you ask or did you just suffer in silence?

No we asked multiple times and the music was turned down for a short while then it was back to Max very shortly. The same thing happened last time we ate there as well. They would turn it down to reasonable levels then a few minutes later ....Full blast!

Sorry there are enough other "good" places to eat and have a conversation with dining partners as well as keeping my hearing.

I think you must have just gone on the wrong day - ive been three times and the music seemed to be at a normal level on all three occasions- I also attended a wedding reception on wednesday and the noise level was normal despite the place being packed with people talking as well ,you could still hold a conversation with people
Maybe they have a guest dj on different days- Im sure the owner will rectify this if it becomes a problem

I agree with jr. I've been there 5 or 6 times, and I have never had a problem carrying on a conversation.

There are many other venues that I consider much less conversation-friendly.

I was there again lately...it's becoming one of my favourite spots!

For the wedding on Wednesday, where they did a nice job of handling all additonal ppl. There were delish little snacks that they brought around to everyone, they always made sure everyone's glass was full. Great service considering the much larger than usual crowd.

They also started up their karaoke again this Friday, now that he has all the permits required.

Once again, we have never had a problem with the music volume, so it must be hit and miss with that....or different perception on what loud music is. But we have never had a problem with being able to carry on regular conversation.

people (at least this people) don't go to restaurants to listen to music.
they go to dine and enjoy their meal.
if there is music...it should be in the backround..
not the foreground.

I had 2 people call me tonight to ask where this restaurant is located and I have to admit, I don't know?

Perhaps someone could share this info with the readers!

Head out of town on Alejo Martinez... it's on a corner on your right some distance after the baseball field/casa marina.

Music volume was fine the night I ate there. Food was very good with nice presentation. Service was slow even by north coast standards (to take initial order & to get the bill together after we requested it). Was only one other table seated & they were already eating when we arrived.

Worth another visit, definitely. They potentially have a real winner if they get the finer points right.

Go straight past Bologna 1 block towards Cabarete and it's on your right. It's across from Infiniti Blu.

Or if you're on Pedro Clisante going away from El Flow, turn left in front of Hotel Europa and when you hit Alejo Martinez it's right there on your left!

having been a supporter and advertiser of Simply red in the past we were disappointed by our treatment last night when complaining about the majority of the meals being stone cold on their arrival after boardering on a three hour wait.
We understand that its difficult to cater for a group of 11 but would expect an owner to take on board any genuine complaint and at least offer some sort discount/apology/free drink as only one meal was eaten.
We understand that there was a problem getting staff, due to the holiday, so feel that maybe he shouldnt have opened for that period, I didnt speak directly to the owner so I have no details of what exchange took place.

How sad is that.... there are always people who will work holiday times if they are paid appropriately!! You and your friends have totally supported this relatively new restaurant facility and, to be treated in this way, is completely unacceptable.

Why don't people ever seem to understand that receiving a complaint is an opportunity to put things right, a chance to restore expectations and alleviate disappointment?
