I remember reading all the articles since the beginning with the negotiations between beach shack owners and the government. Seems to me that there was 150 to maybe 170 shacks total.

I don't think casita #56 is on Charimicos side, probably 150 is considered in the middle. From videos I have seen they were destroying bars way closer to El Batey side...

Looked like a very rushed and unorganised operation, typical meyham, in one it looks like they are dragging the power cable, imagine how dangerous that is, and probably cut power to the whole neighbourhood, what a mess...! Welcome to the banana republic... 😓
Yes power was out most of the day. I saw Edenorte trucks out to do repairs.
It was a typical Dominican shit-show, but that's why the place is so "charming" if you're staying in a hotel with a backup generator and can post a selfie of yourself 100 meters in front of the tear gas while out for your beach walk.

The one side effect with the police and paddy wagons parked at 8AM on the corner of the main highway was the Haitians thought it was an immigration sweep and they all reversed and went back towards Maranatha, La Union and Montellano.
Probably a lot of jobs were short on employees yesterday.

It seems to be a pattern Dominicans move to New York and want to change their neighborhoods into the D.R.
Chinese move to New York "ala" China Town
Italians "Little Italy"

and expats wanting to see the D.R. be "cleaned up" and transformed into a more Miami/Ft. Lauderdale look feel.

I for one always loved the D.R. for what it was and found Sosua beach charming just the way it was especially before the Atlanta / New York Jet Blue crowd arrived and changed the feel in parts of the beach into a more urban ghettos vibe.
Sosúa looked crappy to me last time I went there, unfortunately I have to take the blame from wife for bringing her to the beach while it was overcrowded with Haitian and Dominican prostitutes plus black Americans wore mongers.
Hopefully "La aplanadora" makes it way to the other side soon.

It's just too much!

That Expat Video dude... Just another know it all who has no idea what he is talking about .. Just stringing together Video and photos for Clicks and Likes
, and telling a Story he just made up out of his head with Zero Facts to back it up.
The demolition created an Open sewer Line problem? ???
Like there was a sewer system and a Pump station to pump it up the hill ? Did not exist .
Correct me if I am wrong.. but the Shacks being there is what was creating the Open Sewer problem in the first Place
That is just ONE part of his " Story" which is OFF.
Dude cant even Pronounce Charamicos .
Not sure why I find these Video people so annoying.
Cerise the annoying Canadian actually had some Valid info yesterday, but she was just repeating what she had heard .
Riding around on the back of a Moto , asking the Military Police if she can go in to make her idiotic video .. I literally spit out my Coffee.
She is so clueless. Its like watching a Second City TV Comedy Skit . with Eugene Levy as the Dominican Moto Guy.

sorry for my rant ..

It's kind of weird the hodgepodge way the they knocked down the casitas? The guy in the video seems clueless. There's not going to be any casitas left.

The most logical thing I would have thought was to wait until at least that plaza they are building was close to completion...! It's still years away...!?

Logic is not their strong suit in those parts... 🙄

Now we are left with a beach in rubbles for at least a couple of years, with some bars operating next to it, great tourist promotionnal photos and videos..., are these people for real...!

Doesn't look like debris removal was part of the plan.
Probably not in the meantime, maybe they will start to fence the areas where future demolition are expected to happen. 60 meters away from the water...
You still can enjoy the beach by walking down though the municipal parking lot El Batey Sosua.

Imagine the damage down there.

The water lines are buried 0” to 6” in the sand. I wouldn't be surprised they broke the water lines in multiple places.
If the shack had a water pipe.... the ends would have been ripped off. Who is fixing those?
They all have to be capped or NO Water ANYWHERE!

Same with the Power Lines and the Phone(WiFi) Lines. Who is fixing those?

Is it safe now to walk through there Barefoot?

It just makes it look worse IMO. Plus, there was at least one in the video where they were moving out a freezer and other items.
The one they were emptying is still standing. They are reminding the holdouts, "it's almost time to go". The next set of notices should go out soon. After all these years of talk, it appears to be moving forward.
