Doesn't look like debris removal was part of the plan.
Surprisingly they are actually working on that today... Beach path is still closed off and the whole day Trucks are coming from there with the debris!

And guess what... The Beach vendors are in Santo Domingo to try to resolve the issue...:rolleyes:

Trying to save what little of their livelihood is left. It appears futile.

Imagine the damage down there.

The water lines are buried 0” to 6” in the sand. I wouldn't be surprised they broke the water lines in multiple places.
If the shack had a water pipe.... the ends would have been ripped off. Who is fixing those?
They all have to be capped or NO Water ANYWHERE!

Same with the Power Lines and the Phone(WiFi) Lines. Who is fixing those?

Is it safe now to walk through there Barefoot?
If Sosúa is similar to Samana, it will takes weeks to find an engineer with enough knowledge, time, materials and money to glue some caps on those PVC pipes.

Anyone who thinks these changes will be limited to the beach should go back and watch the video Nals posted in #880.

My question.
Why do they start tearing down the businesses before the plaza is even close to being ready right at the beginning of high season? They had all summer or next summer.
Maybe the owners/vendors of those businesses that were torn down will not be in the new plaza when it has been completed.

One of the reasons that there were people caught off guard by this is that even though the owners of the shacks that took the payout were notified of the upcoming demolitions some of those owners did not inform their tenants of the notices and were caught off guard, shame on those owners.

I'm talking about for tourists.

Do you think they will stop tearing stuff down until high season is over? I suppose if this is all they are going to do until the plaza is finished. Does anyone think anyone will visit the plaza once completed? It's kind of far from the beach.

I know a few people visiting in December and January. Don't think they have heard.

Just a thought.... It is more difficult to tear buildings down during a Month of rain. The Rain stops.... The buildings come down.

Yes, I never understood this either.
Why would I want to go to a beach, but then not go to the beach, but to a 'plaza' to get food or drinks??
Is it American mall culture or something?

Same bs in Thailand where to always promote places because it has 'an insane mall'.
Why go to a mall as a tourist to buy the exact same stuff you have back home?

From what I see it is just a bunch of concrete overhangs far from the beach and as close to useless as they come. Looks like another year before they can open
They did build huge cisterns so make they can have water to hose the trash down the hill.
Prediction - the new 'plazas' will be abandoned within 18 months, unless the beer is free or they will become the new Charamicos drug hubs

I agree.
This "renovation" has nothing to do with the existing vendors, it's about thinning the herd.
Won't be surprised to see half of these spaces go to the cruise ship companies.
No it will be offeted to connected Dominicans who will make deals with tourist groups or taxis like the businesses on Malecón en P.P.
But it won't draw many tourists. They will however draw flies.

I don't think tourists expect a white glove treatment in Sosua, or any other north coast beach, but it is nice when the toilets have a seat so that you do not have to "hover" . It is also nice if you can identify a sink in the bathroom, and not have to reach underneath it to turn on the one valve (meaning only cold, no hot water) because the faucet is broken or missing.
They made similar renovations in Las Galeras. We now have nice bathrooms, chairs and tables to sit at while eating, and they have clean kitchens to cook in. There are tourists there as well as Dominican families enjoying it every day. The same local Dominicans are cooking each day. They were allowed to stay rent free indefinitely, they just have to pay utilities.
I hope your Sosua project happens faster than Las Galeras. LG took about three years. They would work for about one month, and then take three months off for procurement, meditation, vacation, etc.
They should have the decency to require attendance at the job site with white collar guy walking around with papers and the blue collar guys standing around with shovels like the rest of the civilized world.

This all about selling condos on the beach. I think the cruise destination is the goal as far as beachgoers mentioned by CristoRey. Remember the new sidewalk so people can walk to work from Charamicos to Sosua? The beach will be restricted. They don't want too many people on the beach.
Money always wins.
