Cerise the Breaking reporter did state exactly that .. I think she even said they will be 3 towers , 6 Stories High ( just going from memor I forget the details), but yeagh, she claims there are Condos going up but that the 60 Mete Rule from the water line would apply .. bla bla .
Nor sure where she gets her info from ..
Probably a cereal box.
With the amount of erosion they are going to be dealing with no one will be building 6 story condos.

The fact that high rise condos are going to be build there was in the news a lot when this whole thing started. The owner didn't donate that land at the ends of the beach out of the goodness of his heart. Approvals are probably already pretty much guaranteed.

Over 2 years and they still aren't even half done with either of those plazas. Probably another 2 years at least before they get even one of them done.
And a 6 story condo probably take them at least 10 years to complete especially since their best source of labor the Haitians are not all that welcome in the country and you can't get a Dominican to do the job.

They(them) are not one and the same. The government is building the plazas. The condos when they are built will be build by the owner of the land and private contractors.

And all this 'renovation' to what end ? I saw someone joking on Facebook about 'Family destination Sosua' with Noah's ark tours and explosion-proof hotels. Not a good look. There are tons of videos on Whatsapp groups on flooding in Sosua (and worse in Montellano and Puerto Plata)

So 3 plazas, 10 or 20 storey condos all of this would not be good if the surrounding area has infrastructure that is crap for most of the year. I think the plazas will be 3 years old when they are opened as 'new'

This thread will be going for 10 years talking about the same crap
The country whether private or public can't accomplish anything in a timely manner and never will
Took them over a year to build a bridge and they were all patting themselves on the back like that was some kind of accomplishment
The place is a joke and far to many celebrate under achievement there.

I think you presented an overly optimistic time frame, at least for the plazas to be done. At zero progress being made the results could drug into infinity and beyond.

The condos could be done in 3 years or so from start to finish.

Not to go off-topic but I know a governor who had one built in two weeks after a hurricane last year.

I do not anticipate ever seeing private condos on the beach in Sosua regardless of what is being said.

I am only about 80% certain condos will be built on the slope behind Sosua beach.
Makes perfect sense for the owners of that land to do so.

If the current owners don't build condos on Sosua beach, Leo might buy the land and do it from his Cabarete profits.

It's a new phenomenon. Celebrate participation not winning. Everyone gets a ribbon or trophy. The "Good enough for government work" mantra is alive and well.

I hope it doesn't take 2 years to clear the landslide near Terramar. People can't get to the beach!

Hey, we had our own version of that traffic jam here in Santo Domingo. There was an accident inside of the 27 Feb tunnel that goes under Churchill. One of the cars had a ruptured LP gas tank.

You could have had your own verision of the Sosua explosion. A mixture of propane and air with a spark could have caused damage, but less likely in a place open on both ends like a tunnel. A fireball that injured those near it would be more likely.

Traffic is reportedly moving again with the clearance of the landslide. So, until next time, maybe they will work on the plazas more next year.

I saw a helicopter shot of the traffic jam, who is going to want to hang around here?

The plazas could be an utter and miserable failure, who knows on that. Domincans will still go to Sosua beach by busloads on the weekends.

Only going from what I hear from my people. Could be wrong, could be right. It makes sense, that or a resort.
I heard about the proposed condo construction quite a few years ago which incorporates the new Golden Highway construction. Turismo wants to attract the rich Dominicans from Santiago. Many of them already own weekend homes and condos in Sosua but Turismo seems they can attract more of them. Their travel time will only be around one hour with the new highway.

I'm Shocked that this Section of Autopista 5 did not FAIL and completely get washed out .. It could still happen.
Does anyone know if there is any Bedrock underneath all that Mud with No trees.. ? If there is, then anything is possible, construction wise .. they can go 10 stories if they want to
but. Its its only 20 feet of dirt and Mud on a steep grade to boot , then this is going to get very interesting before its all said and done.
