ESTATUA DE ATABEY EN SOSUA or ATABEY STATUE IN SOSUA

This is very large (very strangle looking) Concrete Statue that was started on Sosua Beach years ago.
The local Church made a big stink because it was a pagan fertility goddess statue.
It disappear for a couple years.
The two years ago, it reappeared, as it was being sunk (placed) off the Sosua Beach at the Charamicos end.

This should be a Tourist attraction (why not).

Yet.... I don't see any markers any where.
(Google Earth show a location, but I think it is too far from the Beach)
No Floating Buoys.
No signs on the Beach pointing to it.
No pictures of it anywhere.
No T-Shirt being sold with it's image.

N O T H I N G ! !
You can a t-shirt featuring it at Divecenter Merlin if you should desire. "I went down on Atabey"

jd426. Cruise ships are set up to partner with other businesses to capture every dollar possible.
Most likely any events the cruisers got to are set up with partners of the cruise lines for that reason.
Perhaps the new boats are one of those partners. That is simply their business model. Some considerng it cheating
while others recognize it as smart business.

At least we are beyond the point of arguing that cruisers won't go to Sosua Beach...
Beach yes, concrete Kiosks located well above the beach - The Magic 8 Ball says: "Not Likely"

Only time will tell. Within 10 years or should we should see if Cruisers hit the Concrete when they finally finish.
At zero progress rates it could be a while to find out. They will have to go there if they want food or drink since all the putrid shacks will be long gone.

My plan is to be long gone from DR before 10 years. Hoping this is the year I can get my dogs out.
Crumbling roads, lack of water, frequent power outages and now traffic becoming congested even in the little town of Sosua. I will leave Sosua to the Fat Hookers and Jet Blue mongers
There are other areas where life is easier & certainly more relaxing for me as I head into my not-so-golden-years.
Today Paradise Put Up a Parking Lot.

Where would you be off to?

When I arrived to Cabarete in 2003, the roads and electricity were far worse than today. FAR worse
The water supply was far better back then. Traffic is getting worse, no doubt about that.

I encourage eveyone insterested in the DR to move to Punta Cana. They can jam up the roads there and overtax the infrastructure.
But yet more stuff keeps getting built and sold on the north coast. Oh well.

As for the fat hookers and Jet Blue whoremongers, the government will keep trying things...

Cabarete
Frank is living just east of Cabarate at Sabanetta. And he is loving it.......
Not that it has anything to do with Sosua beach renovations, but to continue with what others are saying, I saw Frank in Goddess restaurant in Cabarete a couple of weeks ago. He was with a middle-aged Dominican woman who I assumed was a nurse or something, as he looks pretty frail these days.

I have not seen Frank but spoke to him on the phone a few times. He told me he is working out every day in the pool for an hour or two. He said he lost weight and is in better shape now than when he was in Pennsylvania. So looking frail may not mean bad shape I am hoping. He is a great guy.......

when I go to sosua I dont go to sosua beach....I need a place with little noise and few people to distract me and to have a few cold beers and think things out... so I go to the Central Bar and Hotel................
The Sosua draw for me Is hanging out with friends, taking In the music scene, and drinking at a few of the smaller bars like Plan B, etc. Loud crammed bars don’t appeal to me. Navigating through the spandex set on Pedro Clisante is always fun. Much more fun after a few beers or drinks of rum. God bless them and all who sail in them!

I always call it "Checking out the riff raff" and quite a few " There but for the grace of God go I"
The ladies provide a necessary service JD and are part of God’s greater plan, in my humble estimation. Don’t forget even HE had a female confidante, Mary Magdalene, purported to be a lady of the evening. She was a powerful influence in his life.

One of the last times I was at Sosua beach a large group of Dominicans arrived and set up loud speakers. They ate and drank and around 3PM they left to get back on their bus they left all their trash of paper plates, tin foil and bottles and a couple dirty diapers in the sand under the trees. They made zero attempt to gather the trash and get it about 50 feet to garbage cans.

And you found this somehow abnormal here?

I would be shocked if anything was picked up.
