Out of curiosity, when was the last time you walked down the beach? What they've done to the Charamicos side is appalling.Ok. It's been a long time since I've been there. I don't remember such a difference in elevation(?).

That's what I've heard. Believe it or not, I have never walked past about midway on Sosua Beach. I only go there once or twice a year max.Out of curiosity, when was the last time you walked down the beach? What they've done to the Charamicos side is appalling.
Indeed. One thing to remember is that the land behind the beach narrows a good bit on the El Batey end of the beach. The plaza on the El Batey end will be much closer to the water than the one near Charamicos.
Great. I am glad that the squalor on the beach will eventually be gone. I had hoped that would have happened by now, but by the gods they are slow about it.Make it easy on you the plazas are below the road and above the beach
From where those plaza's are going in down to the actual beach is a pretty good distance as well as an elevation change.
The change is more drastic on the Charamicos end then on the El Batey end.
The vibe of the Sosua playa we currently know will be gone forever should they ever get completed.
Several years seems overly optimistic right now. At the current pace it won't every complete. So those who like some of that remaining squalor can enjoy for as long as it lasts.Even the current location of the shacks really isn't on the beach either all though there is sand by them.
Now if you want to be "on the beach" there are lounge chairs available and people more than willing to bring you food and drink
How it will all work in the future no one really knows but probably don't need to be to concerned about it either for several years if ever.
Some people want concrete and homogeneity. It appears that is the goal.Personally, I like Sosua beach as it is and would not describe the condition as "squalor".
I agree. I have been to many beaches in many different places in the world and the vibe at Sousa playa is unlike any other.Personally, I like Sosua beach as it is and would not describe the condition as "squalor".
100%But we all know there are some that think they are "experts" on every subject here to.
I think the question there is - would the government allow it?I am hoping that enterprising locals come with carts/vans and set up mobile bars. I would absolutely hate having to wait or walk up to the plazas.
On the El Batey side, isnt the elevation more ? I remember the steps were more on that side to come down to the beach but I could be wrong
I have been to Sosua beach less than once per year since 2003 when I moved to Cabarete full time.I agree. I have been to many beaches in many different places in the world and the vibe at Sousa playa is unlike any other.
Have to take the dude that feels like it is squalor with a grain of salt though. He readily admits he has not spent any significant time there lately and one certainly can't tell what it is really like while driving through on Hwy 5. But we all know there are some that think they are "experts" on every subject here to.
I am not looking forward to the day that I would have to sit at one of those plazas and pay triple for my drinks. Much rather hang out with people and enjoy the sights during the the day which there are many and support those that really need the help to be able to survive. But some are to selfish to be able to understand that.
I don't see that happening.. Nope. VERY doubtful. The people paying rent in the plazas would do everything they could to squash that. But we will see in 10 or 20 years what happens.I am hoping that enterprising locals come with carts/vans and set up mobile bars. I would absolutely hate having to wait or walk up to the plazas.

You are right. Just like the taxi mafia holding a tight grip on airport transfers and tour operators in POP, the people renting the new shops would nip competition in the bud.I don't see that happening.. Nope. VERY doubtful. The people paying rent in the plazas would do everything they could to squash that. But we will see in 10 or 20 years what happens.
What I would have done on Sosua beach is nothing like what is being done. By the way.
I would have fixed up the places of business and improved the infrastructure. They are killing a gem.I don't see that happening.. Nope. VERY doubtful. The people paying rent in the plazas would do everything they could to squash that. But we will see in 10 or 20 years what happens.

Apparently the owners of the land were not interested in spending a lot of money to fix them up then spend the rest of their lives trying to collect rent from all the non payers.I would have fixed up the places of business and improved the infrastructure. They are killing a gem.
add 'find and imprison the creep cammers' to this please. They have popularized Sosua as a destination for single men looking for ladies of negotiable affection and you never know if you are going to end up in one of them videos just because you wanted to chill out at one of the beach barsI would have fixed up the places of business and improved the infrastructure. A few sleeze balls masquerading as YouTubers definitely played a roll in all of this.add 'find and imprison the creep cammers' to this please.
