Maybe in 10 years the talk will be about the trick to get building ground and permits to build failing plaza’s only to get them bulldozed and build a whole lot of condos. Who knows..
The land where the plazas were supposed to be completed was donated to the DR government by the landowners. They won't be getting that land back.

LOL

Not the responsibility of the business people to clean up the debris that was torn down. That should have been taken care of by whoever was hired to tear down the casitas but alas that's just more evidence of how half assed things are done there and if the government and/or department of tourism really cared they would have addressed it already.

This thread will probably still be talking about the same old stuff 10 years from now except we will be talking about how terrible the half done plazas look and if they will ever be completed.
Now, now. That's my line.

The lack of carry through on Sosua Beach in a timely manner if ever, failed promises to build a Cabarete Bypass, widen the road from Puerto Plata to Gaspar Hernandez to 4 lanes, the lack of starting the Ambar Highway to shorten the route from the north coast to Santiago, the water supply being on for several days a week for some and never for others here on the north coast are all just manifestations of the government ignoring the north coast and focusing on other areas. And dont forget how long it took to rebuild a simple failed bridge

This is what I think they should work on before all this stuff. The water, electricity and the roads. 100% Everything else comes after.

I think the point @aname4me was making is that the shack owners and the chair/umbrella rental folks kept the beach clean (mostly)

Once they are gone, there will be no one to clean, as is evident by the neglect on the Charamicos side. The government demolished the shacks but they clearly have not cleared out the debris. If and when AIs or condos are built, they are not going to be cleaning the beach because they will cut down the trees. Less trees = less chances of damage in a storm/hurricane + less maintenance + clearer views (from POV of condos/AIs)
I don't think that's the case at all. I live in a condo on the beach and our employees make sure it kept clean and free from debris. Nobody is going to pay $500K and up for an oceanfront condo and not have a clean beach.

I did not take it so LITERALLY ... but I supposed it could be taken that way ..

I thought it was more of a Point that if Someone has SKIN in the Game , they will clean their front Porch ,since they have an IMAGE to maintain in order to attract Customers to their little Spot on the Beach .

These Project people OTOH, quite obviously do not give a rats Arse about how filthy pile of Debris they left behind
they care ZERO about the Image of the Beach and the Tourists who come to visit .
I just cant understand how the Higher ups are allowing this to continue .. do they not care as well, or are they just not aware of it yet .

I actually think it is their goal. Make it ugly, make people not want to go. Starve the businesses out. They know it will be many years until anything is built. Time is on their side.

Sorry to interrupt. Doesn't less trees mean more coastal erosion (losing sand)? Less sand = less beach.

Of course but by then the owners would have cashed out and gone. I will not claim to know the DR very well, there are many here that actually do know the country and history much better. But from what little I know, long-term thinking/planning is not the forte of DR governments. They are making improvements, there is an environment ministry agency but how efficient it is in preventing damage to the environment is not clear to me. Happy to be corrected on this.

Been having to go by the beach in the past few days. Noticing nobody at work on the plazas. I guess they just don't care about finishing them.

I did see work on Altos de Bergantin and some work on the flat ocean side land for the new massive Playa Bergantin project which finally seems to have started slowly.

They're finally waking up to the fact that nobody has any real interest in renting in the plazas. Not now anyway. Maybe in another 5-10 years(?).

I bet that's not far from the truth. Eliminating that center plaza deflated everyone's balloons.

Question. Who is saying the shops are for rent?
Why you think they did the count of the shop's and did already pay out the ones not getting a shop? The official plan is shop an exchange of shops (little shops...). Sure there will be people trying to sell or rent the shops to others after the initial part like in all the government builded things like in La Union, Villa Liberacion etc. but like already mentioned where you got the information from that the current shop owners have to rent the new shops? 🤔
🤔

Actually GO to the beach. The damn jack hammer pounding is going on every day. Ask any of the businesses on the road going down to the parking lot.

I think it was mentioned somewhere in this OT(?). Are you sure that the government is just going to give the caseta owners a space for free?

No thanks. I will wait until they are finished with the plazas if it happens in the next decade or so. There is no work progress visible on a drive by.

I see nobody working on areas visible from the highway. I see others like yourself reporting there is work being done down below.
So maybe they actually will finish sometime this century. I have to rely on people that actually go to the lower part of the beach, since I won't be doing that.

That is the or was the plan according to el presidente... but like always with this administration plans are flexible and be assured that those in charge in the government will get the kickback at least from the future land sale....
