I have not been up past the memorial in several months, but the last time I was there, it was a disgrace. The community has let it become an overgrown jungle. We mentioned at the time that not to care for it is to honor someone, then insult him. I certainly hope someone takes the lead and organizes a group to make the place nice again. I don't have the time or authority to organize this, but I certainly would take time to help. Herman Strauss was a great man. Sosua lost an icon. For those who don't know about the philanthropic Strauss family read about the memorial in La Mulata. Condolences to the family, the community has lost a special man.
Keep in mind that Kaddish is only said in the presence of a minyan (10 adults/males if you're O-dox) and there is no mention of the dead or death in it. It's not something to be taken lightly. There's a special Kaddish said only by the family at the burial.
