Richard, what part of "hard to imagine" do you not comprehend?
I was not comparing Sosua prices to other countries.

Marc, you like to have a beach to yourself then Sosua is the place.
I was not had by a driver in Sosua.
Actually it was my driver who was curious to check the taxi prices in Sosua. He was amazed at how high they were. I told him that they can ask for whatever they want but with no customers, who cares.
The simple concept of supply and demand seems lost here.
Just like the golf course at Playa Dorada. They would be much better off if they lowered the prices until they were reasonably busy. The course is being maintained regardless of how many people play.

Personally I like to see and meet many people particularly beautiful senoritas and other women from all over the world.
I like to go to casinos and discos but only if they are happening.
I do not like to play and dance with myself.
The more, the merrier for me.

Well, I can agree to the fact that tourist taxsis in Sosua is not very cheap. Especially compared to publicos and gua guas, they are realy expensive. Does Anybody know if you can negotiate on the regular prices that the tourist taxis have ?

Taxi's

I just reserved my Hertz rentacar for 156 for the week.

Why be bothered with Taxis unless you don't drive? Well to each his own I guess. I like traveling on cloudy days and I like to hit the casino in the evenings. Car is necessary for me since I also don't like to stay in town but a mile out of town for some peace and quiet when I don't want the noise.

Marc, how about meeting me on the 29th at Rockys for a beer or ten?

Anyone else that is going to be in Sosua on the 29th of March I would like to invite you all as well.

I LOVE SOSUA. Cheapest vacations I have ever taken. Cheapest place to live in the world that I have been with maybe the exception of Panama. Great people in Sosua. 10 days and I am there again for the 6th time since sept 11

Guess I disagree with the gentleman that hates it. Maybe it just has to grow on you.

regards
Scott

Hola Jazzcom.
$156 to rent a car for the week is a good deal.
I enjoy driving a nice vehicle, but when I am on holiday, I do not need the stress of driving some shitbox hoping that someone does not hit me. I have heard some insurance horror stories that make 1000 pesos per day seem like nothing.
Plus having my buddy Montro for company, to show me around, translate, and bodyguard is a pleasure.
I can't believe you need to stay outside of town for peace and quiet.
When I was there, there was nothing but peace and quiet, and that was the problem.
You must have extremely sensitive ears.
I do not hate Sosua.
I like busy, crowded, lively, loud, hopping, happening, partying places with numerous chicas, senoritas, and other women of the world.
Even if I was on my honeymoon, I would not want to be in a barren, desolate, ghost town.

Salut and have a nice peaceful and quiet holiday.

1. I have a 50% loss of hearing in one ear because of a grenade going off too close when I was in the service.

2. Hell I don't need a bodyguard my friend, I don't get into trouble:)

3. I rent a new car and it isn't a bad car. Nissan Sentra. Not exactly what I am used to but it works for a week. I dont get the insurance because American Express supplies it for me. I have no problemo driving there whatsoever.

4. Sosua "IS" a happening place. Maybe not for the few hours you were there but every time I am there I have a great time and party hardy. Hell last time I was in Sosua Brad who owns the NORTHEAST Dive Shop had me drinking shots of tequilla out of pretty womens belly buttons after sucking the salt off their necks and then taking the lemons out of their mouths. IT isn't quiet there no matter what you say in this thread.

5. I had to stay my first night in town last month because my other reservation got screwed up and I couldnt get to sleep till 5:30 am because of the nightlife noise.

6. Party, girls? Your crazy if you think that there isn't anything going on. Hell I carry a baseball bat around with me to keep the women AWAY from me.

7. Thanks for the good wishes. Can't wait to get there. Only 10 days left.

Regards

Thanks for the info. Jazzcom.
Sorry to hear about your accident.
I was only joking about the sensitive ears.
I will have to give Sosua a try next time, and perhaps Cabarete as well.
I think I will need at least 3 weeks next time because I want to check out Santo Domingo and Santiago as well.
I was not as free as I like to be because of one possessive girl in Puerto Plata, but now that she is history, I am extremely anxious to get back down there again.
The bat sounds like a good idea, or I suppose one of my golf clubs would work as well.
Actually I just have to stop being so damn nice.
That's one thing I love about my Dominican buddies.
They are not shy about expressing themselves even if a chica ends up pissed off.
My first 2 trips to the Dominican Republic were 3 weeks apart and I am ready to go again right now but my hockey playoffs are coming up and summer is just around the corner so I will probably try to wait until next winter.
Hopefully I will have learnt more Spanish by then.
Do you go there in the summer as well?

Have a great trip with lots of sunshine and senoritas.

Cabarete I think has a little more happening because the clubs/restaurants are right on the beach. I usually go there for at least one night.

Evidently a few hours in a town doesn't give you a good enough feel for it to pass judgement I guess.

I think that Aug. and Sept. are a bit too hot for me. Can't even walk in the evening without breaking a sweat. I will probably pass on those months this year although I went last year.

I go down every 4-6 weeks and really enjoy myself every time. Sure every once in a while there is a slow night but I can still make trouble in Sosua even on a slow night or take a ride to Cabarete or Puerto Plata.

I am going to Santo Domingo this trip because I filed for my residency and I have to go for blood tests and physical. If there is a rainy day I plan on going to Santiago also.

Thanks for the good wishes.
