that's the first realistic post yet
From what people (who aren't in favor of the status quo) are telling the folks I know
who live up there, the National Government has given the Local Government
several opportunities to "manage themselves" however they have consistently
proven their inability to do so... now the National Government has decided to do it for them.

I had to read it twice too, but I think HS was talking about looking at the back side of the vendor shacks. Which is pretty ugly.
But, the vendor shacks will be gone(?). Nobody is going to build beachfront condos behind those shacks.

Without the vendors shacks, bar and restaurants as they now are there is no "Playa Sosua" .

Once all the ambiance and atmosphere, provided by the above and all the people love it are gone the beach may as well not exist. It'll be a wasteland.

I'm grateful every day that I have moved on, but I did like to visit. Once the bulldozers arrive I may never bother to return.

The beach as it is now is 50% or more of why I ever liked Sosua, and friends and my favorite few restaurants are the rest. My friends will have to come visit me. There are beaches and great restaurants nearby...perhaps I'll encourage them to move! LOL :p

This is interesting. With all the talk about tearing down the shacks, this intrepid investor has built a new bar on the beach near Mofongos. There's supposedly going to be a concert there this weekend:

Thats Crazy .. he either knows something, or he likes to flush money down the toilet ..
Although I am now firmly now in the "im sorry but yes its going to happen now" Camp .. (tearing down the vendors)

I would so enjoy watching this drag out another 2 - 5 years .. how funny would that be, that they cant pull this off..
Sosua really is a magical, mysterious Place ..

You could start a poll with when it will start. Just after Easter, 6 months, 1 year, More than 1 year...
Just after Easter seems like as good as guess as any.

I am getting 5-1 odds on a 10 peso bet that nothing will happen within 5 years. Not feeling very sure about winning.

Well some say they will believe it when the bulldozers show up. I will believe it when excavators show up because some of those "beach shacks" are two story substantial concrete structures that will take some work to get rid of.

I'm surprised that none of the Sosua posters here who frequent the beach often hasn't asked an owner of one of the shacks what they say is happening(?).

A lot of dreamers come here and don't have a clue what they're getting into - that's for sure.

Nothing a few low paid illegals and a couple of jack hammers can't take care of. I've seen them take down bigger structures in a matter of days

I was there 2 weeks ago and did ask two. I got the old "I'll believe it when I see it" from both. Neither seemed at all concerned. In denial? We'll see.
