Sosua Post Office?
The postal service here in the DR is a total joke. The last letter mailed to me took 3 months to arrive in Sosua - 2 months and 3 weeks after it was marked "received in Sto. Dom. When I went there to look for the letter they gave me a big cardboard box full of mail and I got to pick through a couple hundred letters looking for it. Many letters that have been sent to friends never arrive. Maybe packages are handled differently than letters, but Dominican friends here have told me to never send anything here in a package by regular mail.. Good luck!
I did a search on dr1 and I think someone said this office closed? Anyone been recently? May go there anyways just to check. For some reason I thought it might be by the mayors office by Super super.
Many years ago when I lived in Sosua I received mail from the US. For instance I received credit card renewals. The envelope I received, but the card inside was gone. Once I received a packed of checks. Everything seemed to be in order until sometimes later $10,000 was missing from my US bank account. Turns out someone ripped out a check from the middle of a booklet
and made out a check to themselves. My then Dominican wife was more reasonable. On the eve of a visit to her sister
in the US she made out a check for $8000 which she deposited in her sister's bank account in the US.
In the interest of full disclosure I must state that ultimately I recovered all of my funds which took considerable time and effort, which could have been spent more productively.

To my knowledge it is still in the corner of the small plaza where Edenorte is located.
There is no delivery, you will have to go there and claim it.
If and when you do, please let us know if it is still there. If not, let us know where it has moved to.

I'm going to go there tomorrow morning unless*
it's raining hard. Will report back on how it went.
Think how absurd it is. Almost 250 years ago, Ben Franklin established a postal system to deliver mail between the 13 colonies. 150 years ago, Pony Express was formed and mail was carried westward from the Mississippi on horseback and able to be delivered 2500 miles from the east coast to the pacific coast in 10 days. Today, the DR still hasn't been able to put together a functional postal system.

And 100 years ago most large cities in the USA (maybe Europe too?) had mail delivery TWICE A DAY!
And in the less populous sections of the country there was RFD (Rural Free Delivery).
Here in the DR, for intra-country delivery (well, semi-delivery anyway) a good option is to use one of the bus companies (Caribe Express, Metro, etc). They'll *deliver station *to station.*

Yes. There is a "post office" in the same off-the-street plaza as where you go to pay Edenorte. There is also an "INTERNATIONAL EXPRESS MAIL" box at the photo/cable/viagra store on Pedro Clisante.
From time to time, I amuse myself with sending postcards or letters to friends and family in the US. Just to keep it real, and to make sure it is a real sample, I use various locations, ranging from Florida to Massachusetts to New Hampshire, Connecticut, and California.
The fastest delivery time was a postcard to Connecticut last summer and it took 9 weeks. The rest of my recipients are still waiting. Bastedly, I assure you.
The only way you can count on mail leaving the North Coast is by a.) dropping it when you change planes; b.) giving it to friends to drop when they return; c.) using your EPS or whatever other carrier you use; or d.) cutting off your arm and using UPS, DHL, or FedEx.

Packages go to the main post office in Puerto Plata - you need to go with your ID and tracking info - the main guy there has a ledger where everything is carefully hand-written - if you know what your parcel looks like it helps! Call first and arrange a pick-up time - 809 261 7220 - leave your number and they will call you if it is not yet there. Simple!!!!

I've sent a small package to the US from that post office on the off-street-plaza. Nothing valuable, I had low expectations and was completely ready that it will be lost somewhere. The package made it in 3 weeks, it was a nice surprise. May be it works better when sending from here or may be I was just lucky.
Sending was OK for me as well the one time I did it. Receiving, use the courier services from Miami.
Any idea what time they open? Am planning on going around 9:30 or 10:00.
*I'm going to look at it as a scavenger hunt. *I also will be happy if I can connect with it but am not going to stress about it. *It didn't make sense to send it to the shipper in the U.S.A not knowing the packaging as sometime with Amazon I have gotten burned with them putting a tiny item in the largest box possible.
**This is a replacement coming from Landsend.uk and sometimes they just use an envelope pak but not sure. *I did send *a request for help on the contact form on the inposdom website but checked to get a copy of the email and never received it. *I then sent an email directly to their contact address on their website so maybe someone will answer it.*
inposdom offices normally open at 8 am. the one in POP is on 12 de julio, corner with separacion, opposite 'skina restaurant. they may shut down lunch.

I picked up the package at the Sosua post office.
It was logged in the book as there. Came last week.
Took about 10 minutes to find but the woman working there was lovely with a friendly attitude.
There is a lot of mail for those looking for something. I'd give it a shot before heading to POP.
Am very happy. *Now if the weather would cooperate could get in the water to snorkel in my new suit.
