ZONING. Maybe that word should be in the language forums as I have seen very little, AKA none in most parts of the DR.For years, I kept thinking, how and why would anyone want to live next to a tire repair shop, a mall, a 700,000 square foot disco from hell in the middle of the night. Yes, I know in most cases, it's a matter of history, genesis , but HEY, there is always a starting line to begin anew.

I never heard anything about a raid, but if it's true it had no impact on today's business. At 4:45pm today the traffic in that area was extremely heavy and about 100 people in line to get into Anhvee. A total mess.
Normal operating process here keep harassing Until they find a charge to stick...3rd or 4th time now...

What do they do - stay until 5am?

There are a couple of options as I understand it. If you drove your own car, when you want to leave during the curfew hours, you need to be escorted home by a taxi or a moto with a permit to circulate during the curfew. If you don't have a vehicle you just take one of those taxis or motos. I haven't done it, this is only what i have been told as to how leaving Ahnvee during the curfew works. How many of these escort vehicles are available at any given time, I do not know. As normal if you have contacts or know the right people you can do pretty much as you want during the curfew. Not sure if pesos work as well as a well placed contact but they might. Someone with personal experience needs to clarify how to come and go during the curfew. Since a lot of people are doing it, there must be quite a few people who know how to get home without being hassled.

While I hate the curfew and think it is not doing anything besides killing already struggling businesses, it seems most unjust that Ahnvee can flaunt the decrees and operate with impunity.
I prefer to see the curfew ended but as long as there is one the authorities should not give anyone a pass, that includes someone with connections or deep pockets.
Too many people here have (or believe they have) connections in high places.
How many times do we see DR1 posters claim to 'know a top military or police colonel which covers for their delitos .

What are the chances that a friendly Colonel will always be reachable when needed. Especially if leaving Ahnvee at 2:00 am? Ahnvee's designation as a resort seems to have some bearing on how they can have so many guests on the property when the rest of the social establishments are forced to close. I don't know anything about a concerted effort to change things at Ahnvee only what I read on DR1 and the inferences I draw from that as no one has yet come out an specifically stated where the purported official interest in that establishment comes from or what the specific issue(s) are. With a way to come and go from that location during the curfew it is not surprising that people continue to come and go as they please. I don't completely understand how but it is apparently possible to do so with some degree of impunity.

Hotels are allowed to keep the party going past regular curfew for guest... where bars don’t have hotel rooms ...

Niagara Falls ( Canadian Side) as of last Summer ( i was there) was extremely Busy ..hard to get a good room, Lines at most good Restaurants .. and forget about parking you Car .... So if that is your best Example comparison for a destination that is in the " rear view Mirror" , you would be very very wrong , and perhaps many of you are also wrong about Sosua being in peoples rear view Mirrors..
Point is There are always NEW GROUPS/ Next Generation to replace the old ones who have moved on.
IMHO, You are seeing a Bad Slump is all .. it will return, possibly stronger than Ever ,, but it may not be the SAME type of Busy , busy , but just different kind of busy..
All it would take is 2 big Discos/ Clubs opening back up, that will be the Spark that sets it all in motion again.
Like when D' Latin first Opened . Many had never seen anything like it before or since .

My reference was to the US side of the falls.

Niagara Falls and the Poconos were extremely popular tourist attractions and have both peaked, and while still attracting tourists, they have lost out to other tourist destinations, both national and international. For decades the Falls was the number one tourist destination for honeymooners......not anymore. And in 2016 it made the FBI's list as the most dangerous city in New York.

The decline, or leveling off if you prefer, of Sosua and more particularly the north coast can be traced mostly to the ascendancy of Punta Cana in the 90's. The big money poured into the east, and to a much smaller extent Samana.

Now the big money is quietly heading to the southwest, but still fueling growth on the east coast.

The north coast will survive, but its heydays are and have been in the rearview mirror.....for some time............the big money has spoken.

If there's a line out front they aren't guests. Have the guests on a register and check against wrist bands.
Hookers lined up to get in aren't guests - maybe wannabe guests for a night.

I don't think we'll ever see something like D'Latin again.
At least not in the center of town. Its cool to see people
wanting to hold out by trying to move the party down the
road but I do think they have a very bumpy ride ahead of them.

I hope the guy is washing money for somebody otherwise with Willy letting Flow and Rumba and all the spots "downtown" open up again it's gonna be tough for this guy to make his million back within two years...

I don't think it can be assumed that the bars on Pedro Clisante will be as in the past once tourism has recovered and curfews have ended. I believe the plan is still to move the girls to the other end of town.

that place (D'Latin) must have been a gold mine, packed every night, little overhead, selling drinks as fast as they could open the bottle and was only opened for high volume hours $$$. I dont know if its true but was told the guy who owned that place owned that other club across the street $$

Possibly, but I don't think that's a sure thing. Playa Dorada is (was) already seeing a rebirth with multiple projects. Some development already under way in Sosua and more on the drawing board. All it takes is some renewed interest from Nort Americans with some help from travel agencies and it could take off. POP fees still an issue but who knows, that could change too.
