On Tuesday, 13 August 2024, Spain’s Foreign Minister José Manuel Albares announced that Spain will now handle diplomatic matters for Dominican nationals residing in Venezuela. The remark was made to the press after the minister spoke at the Spanish senate.
Addressing the media at the Senate, Albares explained that Spain will oversee the interests of Dominican citizens in Venezuela at the request of the Dominican government. This move comes after the Venezuelan government, led by Nicolás Maduro, expelled all Dominican diplomats following the presidential elections in late July.
