Recent reports on the accusations against an English professor for the rape of a 13-year old at a rural school in La Siria, Quisqueya municipality in San Pedro de Macoris continue to make headlines. The investigators have ascertained that the child and professor had maintained the relationship for about a year and this was well known and allowed until the case made the news. The authorities removed the school director and all the staff from the school as the investigations unfold now under the guidance of the Ministry of Education echelons. The school was ordered to close physically with virtual learning for a week after the incident came into the open. The school reopened with new professors and staff on Monday, 25 November 2024.

So many positive news of the public education system in the DR recently... I won't even comment this news or I would be banned from this forum...

My theory is that worldwide, the larger the institution, the more likely they are to ignore the obvious in hopes that it will fix itself.

Though not an ideal situation, similar issues are seen in the public school systems in other countries. A quick search in Google shows plenty of stories. These are great stories for the media, but hardly unique to the DR. Right now there are teachers banging their students in many countries that haven’t been caught yet.

The difference is the school authorities knew about it and did nothing. Such sustaining system is even more poisonous than just one bad teacher.

How is that different from elsewhere?

That’s 4 years before the current Dominican scandal.

If we were to look into an actual difference, we should start that ordeal happened for 3 consecutive years vs the Dominican one for a few months.

The point is that this is not something limited to the DR, rather an issue that happens everywhere. Whether or not it makes it to the news is another story.

I was forced to take an ethics course a few years ago, due to being a volunteer coach. One of the final questions dealt with this sort of issue, giving me a moral issue with the supposed correct answer. Punting the problem to your superior doesn't seem to be quite enough in my mind.

I don't think I claimed anywhere that this would be unique to the DR or did I? Very nice choice of words/expressions in your post by the way, in particular in the last sentence...
