Hello All,

This post is directed to moderators in particular and members in general.

I would like to float an idea for discussion. It is this: Given the various crises that are now emerging in the D.R. with respect to the Haitian population, I would like
to open discussion on the idea of creating a new sub-forum titled something like "Haitians in the D.R." In this new sub-forum the emphasis will be on Haitians in the context of the D.R. whereas the sub-forum "Haiti" which has existed for years will remain for matters pertaining to Haiti to the exclusion of the D.R.

Emotions are very strong and I have been reading some over-the-top posts here on both sides of the debate. Such a new sub-forum would need to have strict rules and be carefully moderated, rules such as 1. Be civil, 2. No hate speech, etc.

FYI: Ah, I've been on DR1 for about eleven years now, turning 72. I'm starting to decline but holding on. Trouble walking, etc.

Sounds fantastic, especially the part about "hate speech".

How bout we call it " Beating The Dead Horse"

Or maybe " Offense Is Taken, Not Given"?

Wait!
Hows about we just call it a "Spade"

"The Voo Doo Child"
"Dirt Cookies"
"There Was An Old Women Who Lived In A Shoe"

Anyone who uses the term "Hate Speech" , has already completely Lost the conversation.

Foul Language is already against the Rules here ... I just came back from a Vacation for it .
There was no Hate ..
Point here is there are already offenses about Foul language, listed in the Rules .
So there is no need to try to label someone's words as "Hate speech " on top of it .
Labeling something Hate speech is just a Slick way of trying to make yourself sound like a better person, and to CENSOR .
If you were being Honest you would admit you are actually trying to Silence the PERSON , and not just his or her words .

Really.... what would be the value of discussing here 'Haitians in the DR'. I'm guessing you mean commenting on who did what and where... I don't see the point. Just need to read the news and that is it. In a few words, Haitians are here and have been here for many years, the government is doing something about it. Writing about it here is not going to bring anything to the issue. (That's my two cents).

The Haiti forum discusses Haitians in the DR quite often. Here on DR1, there are strong feelings/opinions about certain topics, Haiti being one of the topics. The moderators do a good job of keeping it respectful. Really no need for a sub-forum.

True. "Feeling Police" is already patrolling to much (for my taste) in this Forum. Who knows better than me !... i got "arrested" by them several times already LOL.
