Because, @cavok that was the concept of Super Pola in Sosúa = a simple supermarket only for groceries. Now they're trying to upscale things.

Remember:

Sirena = everything store ( clothes, shoes, sports equipment, hardware)
Sirena Market = groceries and and convenience store
Aprezio = cheap grocery essentials, aka = mini market
I guess the Super Pola in Sosua will now be a "Sirena market", but if you look at the pic in post #1, it just says "Sirena"(?).

Many Sirena Supermarkets also have PedidoYa delivery service.

I love the new Pola / Sirena here in Sosua. There is a wonderful spacious feel to it now. Yes they need time to reorganize everything...it must be difficult doing it while the store is open. But overall I love it and consider it a big upgrade.

When Sirena bought their location, they discovered the whole place flooded during thunderstorms. They went in and put a new roof on the building, and had to add about 8 inches of floor height to the entire store section by section.
You wanna talk about inconvenience?
It will take them a few months, but it should be worth the wait.
Nothing is geared towards an expat experience. Not the deli, not the selection of products, but not sure about the cafeteria. I buy a lot of food there and most is acceptable and cheap.
No matter what, Sirena is an oversized colmado, just like Bravo.
There's no cafeteria in the Sosúa Super Pola......

That being said....The slowest pace I ever seen anyone walk in my life, is when there is a small problem at the register and the cashier needs the manager to come over with the key so they can make a change. The manager always saunters over as if he was strolling by a lake and looking at the flowers.

I go twice to three times a week at Super Pola / Sirena. Noticed yesterday ,cashiers were wearing the yellow jacket with the Sirena logo.
Interesting to me that people in this trail report issues that I have never noticed or noticed rarely but definitively not enough to make it a characteristic of the store ..... Store is clean ,has almost everything in terms of food if not Playero is my backup .Yes ,they are some changes on where the products are because they are extending a bit the store....

All good to me !

Peace.

Extending a store size is one thing, however if you do not increase the product selection, as well as making sure the availability of its present range, then all you are doing is putting lipstick on a pig.

This Sirena Market Sosúa will have delivery service thought an app.
They have delivery now. You have to check in with Customer Service before you shop to find out if they're doing it that day. Some days they don't have the staff and they are highly unlikely to do it as it gets closer to 5 p.m. With these caveats, when they do it, it is excellent.

I know that, but in addition they will have the option to use an app to order and select delivery or pick-up.

They changed the one in Punta Cana area last year. There was some growing pains during the transition but the end result was worth it. Better selection and more inventory.
It is now my favored choice over Jumbo. Hope it works out there.

Exactly. So far, they just have more of the same things on the shelves. I think they do have more wines and liquor(?).

A store wouldn’t be extended if the demand wasn’t there. In that case, a store would be updated without adding more sales space. Adding the sales space in that situation means lowering the sales amount (and profitability) per m2.

There is also another hidden sign regarding the pecking order the store in Sosúa is in relative to the other Súper Pola/Sirena Market stores. Just keep in mind that it’s the last store of the Sirena Market’s to be upgraded. Even Las Terrenas was upgraded first,

Sosúa doesn’t have a full Sirena store like Puerto Plata and the main reason for this is that Sosúa (along with Cabarete) can’t sustain such a store, not even their smallest ones.
