Taxi to Resort in Punta Cana

I have a vacation lined up for a Punta Cana resort with my family and I have a few questions about it. I've never been to Punta Cana before or the east coast.

What's the best way of getting to the resort? Should I pre-arrange a taxi before flying or just take one waiting there? Are there any specific types of scams to look out for?

How much should the fare be from the Punta Cana airport to the resort? According to Google Maps, it's a 48-minute drive (27 miles; 44 kilometers). Is it better to negotiate a price beforehand (in dollars or pesos)?

Are there ATMs in the arrival area? If so, which one would be the best to use with a European ATM card? Are there any ATMs there which should be avoided?

Lastly, my son and I have Dominican citizenship but my wife does not. Does she need to obtain a tourist card upon arrival?

Thanks in advance for the insight.

When you leave the terminal you will see a guy with a Taxi sign. The prices are on a board and they honor them. You did not mention the name of your Resort so I really can't say any exact price. But should be about $40-55 US depending on distance. This is the absolute fastest and best way. All are AC and nice cars..........

Thanks. So the names of the resorts are listed on this board along with the prices?

As Sky said there is a board with prices, really easy. There are also some companies that do pickups/drop offs. But I think a taxi will be just fine. I know there is an ATM at arrivals, once you come out of immigration/customs. Not sure about which European cards to use. Taxi's do accept US dollars. Based on the distance you mentioned in your post, sounds like you may be heading to the Uvero Alto area.

Correct about Uvero Alto area. This one is called Finest Punta Cana, which I picked due to the positive reviews.

Regarding the airport ATM, I just wanted to make sure it's a legtimiate ATM that won't eat my card or worse.

Should I ignore the men outside the arrivals area offering a ride and just go straight to the taxi rank outside and get a taxi there?

I remember at the Santo Domingo airport there were always quite a few men inside the building aggressively soliciting taxi services. Not sure if it's like this in Punta Cana as well.

Any advice?

You're better off going with the official taxi, just confirm the price they quote you is not per passenger lol. Some scumbags will try to charge more because there's more people in the van.
