Temporary Residency Legal Costs

We've known a lawyer in Santo Domingo for several years who specializes in immigation. She shot us a figure of $1500 to do our two temporary residencies including translations. So using the Goldilocks scale is that too much, about right, or too cheap? Thanks for your thoughts.

Does that require you to leave the country and then return?

No. We've received the visas here in the U.S. through the consulate in Chicago. The residency is completely different and takes place when in the DR with your stack of paperwork.

Probably about right given the recent inflation.

That sounds about right for just the legal fees plus translations. Keep in mind there are other expenses, like medical, repatriation insurance, application fee, legalizations, and police report.

Is that US$ 1500 each or US$ 1500 for the two? If it's for the two it's about right. My lawyer charges US$ 250 an hour, he is very heavyweight and doesn't charge for all the hours he does for me so it works out. But a lot of them are charging in that region these days.

Thanks for those replies Cavok and MariaRubia. Yes the amount was the total for both. And she had forwarded a detailed list of the other requirements from the immigration website which included all the extras. Farmer
