The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE) published a tender for studies of the train between Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo. BCIE said in a press release that the bidding process is for the hiring of a consulting firm to prepare market demand studies, as well as the analysis of the regulatory, legal and governance frameworks of the railway sector in the Dominican Republic for the development of the train between the cities of Santiago de los Caballeros and Santo Domingo.

The interested consulting firms may access the terms of reference until 26 October 2021.

If they do this then it will only make sense to link it to Puerto Plata as the port is still a large commercial hub on the north coast. If we can get a passenger train that links the 3 cities this would be a major step forward....let's see if they get SD to Santiago done first though. It has been talked about for years but as usual never happens

Good luck on that since its very hilly and mountains between SD and Santiago. it would cost billions and wonder if people would steal electric from the catery wires and do DR have enough electric for this high speed train too? We shall see.

I'm envisioning a train stuck halfway between SD and Santiago because Pablo and his family are running AC.

Who said anything about electric or high speed? It's just a feasibility study.

Maybe they will call it the slow speed train? Depending on where it runs into Santo Domingo, I would definitely use it.
Would love to have a skytrain/ monorail system here too.

Have you taken the cable cars or Metro yet?
