"Nelly Swing" is a young woman from Mao, Valverde; probably in her 20's. For some time she has made Marengue Típico (Perico Ripiao) music. Her songs were interpretations of other songs with nice themes.

Well, about a month ago or song she comes out with a new song titled "El perro bebe agua" (How the Dog Drinks Water.) This song has proven to be asiccess, almost entirely spread in social media rsther than through traditional music labels. Her Youtube account was created on November 14, 2023 and already has over 2,000 subscribers. It has three songs, two with weak views but this one already has over 360,000 views and growing. For now, most subscribers and views are from Dominicans, but that could change. This song might have interpretations in other genres and languages (CardiB will probably listen to thids song carefully.)

Some support her (including her parents,) but she has received many criticisms even from artists.

Lets see if you can figure out what the criticisms are about.

(Sound of a dog drinking water)

Basically, the entire song consist of those lyrics.

Visuals

I would not be surprised if this is heard on Pedro Clisante in Sosúa. Just saying...

Anyway, it claims that already in TikTok it has over 1 million views. Does TikTok pays too? A nice check in US dollars will come from Youtube considering how fast it's growing.

Speaking of the Eduardo Brito National Theater, the Premios Soberano takes place there every year. Some of the winners this 2023 were:

El Alfa

Fefita

Mozart La Para

Among others...

I wouldn't be surprised if "Nelly Swing" is nominated of 2024's version and attends the Premios Soberano in the Eduardo Brito National Theater.

its amazing what will pass as art. It is nothing new. They used to say Andy Warhol could nail a beer can to a canvas, frame it. and sell it for a million.

The "translated" lyrics have been deleted. Not appropriate. I am sure if someone wants to know what they are, they can listen to the song.

thank you for the cultural update, I will catch her next time she is at the Eduardo Brito Theater
The term artist, adapted by millennials is just abusive. A drug dealer who raps and gets a record deal is no artist. A common street thug like a Dominican hero such as Omega is no artist. A woman with 4 inch nails rapping about her WAP is no artist, it's trash.

Well, old croonies were critical of rock and roll back in the days, nowadays old farts complain about hip hop and reggaeton. To each generation their own, I suppose.

The moral of the story is when one starts whining about newer generation artists, one has probably exhausted whining about everything else 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣.

Another one of my favorite colloquialisms, "tattoo artist", the guys that slap a sticker on someone and stick needles in them are artists? They should get jail time for assault and vandalism.

I didn't even know there was a tattoo shop in Cab. I guess there always needs be one in a town like this for the dope smoking kite basement dwellers and Harley Davidson/puta crowd, so, yes I guess the market need is there.
