The Grand Covid-19 Forum held at the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) and sponsored by the Listin Diario concluded that the public management of the Dominican Republic proved resilient, innovative, unified and humanitarian during the pandemic that hit the country in March 2020.

There are many lessons learned. For example, the Minister of Public Health, Dr. Daniel Rivera noted at the conference that for the procurement process needs to change when there is an emergency. He called for the establishment of an Emergency Fund consisting of 1% of the nation’s GDP, and that it be activated automatically. Dr. Rivera also called for the Association of Medical Faculties to prepare their students for emergency situations, as he recalled his own experience during Hurricane David in 1979 when he was a student.
