Some folks here are so stuck on the hooker aspect that they can't accept that this is about money,not morals.

The dereliction of legal process is collateral damage;- for sure, that part is disturbing...


Having a female mayor gives gravitas and female backing to attacking the 'vice industry' and allows the demolition of the tourist industry to make way for fat cat builders and politicos to fill their pockets using a tried and trusted method of moral indignation and fake outrage.

It's money and financial coercion.

If the hooker business paid more they wouldn't touch it.
But it's been outbid.

No it is not the business of Dominicans in the USA how our country is run. Not at all! I remember sitting around with a group of Colombians with every one talking about how the USA should change for their benefit! Didn't think so then don't think so now. If they want change they can become Americans and then work for changes.

My answer is, I don't have the first damn clue. Maybe the prostitutes will just stay down at the other end of town where they are "tolerated", and maybe the police will stop the girls from loitering BEFORE it gets to become a problem.

I'm an educated man, but I'm afraid I can't speak intelligently about how the government will address the situation or how the prostitutes will react. Any speculation will be as useful as telling you I have a brother in Peoria, who had a bar in Ft. Lauderdale, 40 years ago, with prostitutes loitering outside, and how they published the names of the men involved with them, and important names came out, and a federal judge put an end to it.

I'm just stating what I was told by the actual parties involved, not opinion, not speculation and certainly not some archaic story that has nothing to do with the OP.

My wife is Dominican and she wants the changes as well.

The "thousands" that work in the sex trade are not the ones the government cares about. Sorry to be the first to let you know that.

What "they" who matter wish is to clean up the image of prostitution. Whore mongers on this forum do not seem to be able to grasp this essential point. It needs to be cleaned up for the money to come in and re-develop Sosua.

Keep a close eye on the land behind Sosua beach, the new fence, the new staging area for equipment, etc.

First of all, why must everyone who does not agree with your point of view be a "whore monger"?
Could you not simply have stated "Some (or many) people on this forum..."

Secondly, since you like to use that moniker in pretty much every one of your posts, would you be kind enough to define it. I'm interested in how widespread a population that entails. Every man or woman who gives something to another in return for sex?

Thirdly, please do continue posting. Unlike some of us, you seem to have a pretty good handle on what is happening or is about to happen. And no, that was not sarcasm.

No, I don't believe that for a minute. Yes, development and growth is a big part of the Sosua rehab. But having their sons and daughters in the middle of a the flesh trade is not what they want for their future. Any parent can understand that. (most parents)

I'll be there tomorrow for Thanksgiving. Too bad you're not in
town to join me. Easy to spot, I'll be the only guy hanging

Perhaps because he is Dominican, he actually understands Spanish, can read what has been written in the news papers and understands what is on the news and in social media as to what Dominicans are up to in Sosua.

I know that is how I understand what is happening now in Sosua and why what just happened finally did.

Yes this I understand. What I don't understand is the expats living on the other side of the island or who knows where, some even from New Yalk! crying for the demise of Sosua's main draw, when it seems to have nothing to do with them except for their religion or something.

Haha - this coming from you : a guy who doesn't live in Sosua and hasn't been here in 5 years. And how about the most prolific poster in this thread who doesn't live here either - has a lot to say ( over and over ad nauseum) because he has a Dominican wife and family and apparently has the insight and the pulse of the future of SOSUA.
