All those banging (head) on their keyboards about change, if you mean a few bars closed (where some may reopen soon) and some moved to a few meters away, yes that happened, big change.... ! lol
Seems like it is a big deal to some people. Certainly to those bar owners who ignored the instructions to move or be closed.
But if that has changed (or will change) Sosua's image or chica situation or change the minds of so called big pocket developers to shovel in their money here, or DR elite perspective of the place, or bring in lots of new tourists or families due to this, I don't think so, unless they (you) are really naive... ?
I don't expect much. That way I am not disappointed. This small change in Sosua was a long time in coming.
As far as which bars were closed it is obvious to me, those that were frequented by our Afro American, black, from NY/Boston friends (whatever you want to call them) were targeted. Those mainly had white, German, blonde, blue eyes clienteles were left open... !? This had nothing to do with chica attendance or congregation or bar/restaurant status (don't kid yourself).
Spot on with part of the above. That is exactly what finally made the government move off the dime. But I do think it had to do with the general in your face nature of the hookers as well.
And before you ask, no I am not black, and although I don't like their music or smell of cigars and sometimes loud and in your face approach, I am not racist (like some !), and I think what the authorities have done has obvious signs of discrimination and clear racism. I like the idea of live and let live and I think all types should be taken care of and catered for, this was an abhorrent approach by the authorities.
Wait until the US media gets hold of this story properly and the PR sh*t storm that hits DR government will be far worse than when they badly treated Haitians and then had to backtrack on a lot of their absurd plans and projects. In fact I encourage some of those affected and clearly targeted to pass it on as those who did this deserves whatever is coming to them. Nobody cares about Haitians in US or IMF even, but US AA citizens being discriminated and targeted like this will start a huge story....!
I do not think for a second that US Media is going to go on the defense of hooker bars. Not for one instant. Maybe ISOC will rage over it, but media in the USA? I doubt that very much.
As for Oxfam advising IMF and other governments on human trafficking and sex conduct of DR, pleeeeaaase, Oxfam was and is in the center of so many sex abuse allegations (food for sex, and even minors abuse) in Africa and Haiti and some other places they really should hide their face in shame, rather than pointing fingers...
