Does DR have “bail” the way the USA does? Is that how he was out and about, not in a cell?

It was in todays DR1 news.German on the run recaptured for child pornography
German national Heinrich Christlieb, alias Sacha, has been captured. He had been sentenced to 20 years for child pornography. He was captured trying to flee via Haiti to Paris, France on Friday 10 May 2019. The arrest was carried out by the Public Prosecution Service, in coordination with the National Police and Interpol.

On 1 April 2019, 76-year-old Christlieb was convicted by a Puerto Plata court of child pornography in violation of Law number 53-07 on Technology Crimes and the Children Protection Law 136-03.

At the time of his arrest, he was allowed out on bail but an exit impediment was set, meaning he could not leave the country.

Because of his attempt to leave, the Puerto Plata Prosecutor's office has asked for bail to be revoked and for him to go into preventive custody. Hoy reported that in addition to his attempts to avoid serving jail, it appears he had continued his child pornography business while out on bail. A new case will be heard against him.

good question....

Unlike many here -
he may now have a certain respect for the RD tracking skills....

I suspect he has a motor-mouth problem and someone reported him.

Me I would have rented a car, hired a Haitian guide and driven close enough to make the crossing at night and told no one in Sosua. But I wouldn't be doing child porn in the first place

........ but don't they check your passport at the border? I am sure his has a big red flag attached. Probably had a better shot in a Yola to PR.

No passport check if you go through the hills - That Yolo route isn't so easy and the US Coast guard would not let him into PR

Yea but wouldn't his passport be flagged internationally? How could he get out of Haiti?

Why worry about that? :) He could just live happily ever after in Haiti. LOL Haiti has to be at least a touch better than a DR jail cell.

there are only two countries in the world with the American system of bail...the USA, and the Philipines. cash bail is illegal everywhere else.

I thought maybe I was unaware of a bail system in DR, as preventiva is incarceration until trial. So this guy was blatantly walking around in broad daylight, after paying someone off........... He must have deep pockets and nerves of steel. Someone is hopefully going to have some explaining to do.
