What Dominican bank(s) do you have one or more account?

Experiences with Dominican banking and/or with a particular Dominican bank(s)? Good? Bad?

Is there a Dominican bank you recommend?

For the "Other(s)" category, the bank must be based in the DR.

I think its what you need a bank for. I'm building a new house so I opened an acct with Popular and Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz was sorta easy, Popular was a total pain. BUT, once in Popular is fantastic for wire transfers and bill paying . Santa Cruz a wire transfer can take a week, Popular a few hours. (really.)

If business related then Popular is a must, but for general stuff Santa Cruz is more friendly and shorter lines.

A recent interview (Oct 10) was done to Eugene Rault Grullón (in Spanish though it does gives the option to automatically have captions in English, see below to activate). Basically, he is the Dominican responsible for much of the technological advances at Popular. For example, he was the reason the DR was the first country in Latin America to apply the "tap-to-pay" (or NFC) technology.

BHD, and La Vega Real Credit union. At BHD all the tellers know me by name, as do I know them by name. The manager is a client of ours as well.

BHD cannot get their app to function for anyone who opened their account with a passport instead of a cédula.

Which App are you talking about? I opened my BHD account with my passport and have never had a problem opening the mobile app?

We can’t get the BHD App to work. We went into the banco and they told us it’s a problem for people who opened their accounts with a passport and they’re trying to figure it out.

I opened my BHD account with a passport many years ago but have since gotten a cedula and use my cedula number to sign into the app.
