There has never been a hurricane to hit the north coast. There have been some hurricanes that hit the east and south coasts of the DR. This thread is about the north coast. I do understand that most people not familiar with the DR are not aware of the lack of hurricanes with regards to the north coast.

This is absolutely pure nonsense, the North Coast is not some sort of hurricane haven. For years I heard the same myth in Puerto Rico about how the mountains steered the big storms away from northern side of the island. Well, Maria didn't give a damn about the mountains and San Juan got smashed to pieces. The Caribbean as a whole is one big dart board and all it takes is one storm to hit our little slice of paradise and EVERYTHING will be gone.

In response to Posting #85, this resembles the stamps within my passport booklets. Of the 25 journeys listed, I have participated in all but #'s 10-16-25.

Careful now. Wasn’t it a disagreement over hurricanes that caused Marco from Rocky’s (RIP) to leave the forum many years ago?

It is not nonsense. The north coast has not been hit by a hurricane. It is one reason why I chose the north coast.

I invite you to show proof of hurricanes, even one, actually making landfall in the Cabarete and Sosua area in recorded history.

Hint: It never happened.

#4 Copa could be a bit misleading. Many times in the past I’ve flown to the DR from JFK on Copa (connecting in Panama City - the low price used to be worth the extra travel time). I’m sure other airlines have connecting passengers from other origin countries too.

Cabarete
Not quite yet. Cabarete is a total mob scene today. Tomorrow will be the same. Most of the owners in the condo where I live will be gone by the end of next week though. I'll have my own private resort then.

One is far more likely to be hit by a hurricane in Florida than anywhere here on the North Coast.

As likely to get hit by a hurricane in New York as in Cabarete.

The Easter weekend of drunkenness and debauchery has ended.

Cabarete
Just got back from SD late this afternoon today and I could literally see and feel the difference - and not just from Semana Santa, but from the winter high season in general. It's just a lot calmer - less energy in the air.

Indeed the morons were out in full force yesterday at the paving near Sosua Abajo - They would drive around flagmen, pull out to pass (with 100 cars ahead of them) even though it was one lane. If only the PN was there on motorbikes to slap them with a multa, and delay them even further.

Makes no difference if they are driving an '83 corolla or a '18 Prado they are willing to drive through fresh asphalt primer, or uncompacted asphalt to advance themselves 100', because they are 'very important' and everyone should recognize that.

It will be hard to fault because these Samana Santa nut-jobs are intent on acting the fool.

Billy lack of education makes people do stupid stuff...
