Well you know the gringos were going to be the ones paying like pendejos. I know many Dominican men heads of household that told me plain and simple they have their domestic help and will never pay a dime for any nonsense like this. The rich already use bonded services so they don't give a damn. The ones that get stuck are gringos that the maids want to rake over the coals after the legal 3 months probation is complete!

As I understood it domestic help is exempt from any and all bonuses, and doesn't receive any severance pay nor 13th month pay.

As far as I know, they do get the 13th month, plus vacation.

I don't know if they're supposed to or not, but I have always given them both. A little bit goes a long way.

By liquidation you mean cesantía. I was never able to find in the handbook the clause that you just pay outstanding vacation and prorated Christmas bonus. Unfortunately if you're a gringo and they drag you to court, you can best believe you will pay the cesantía. Which brings us to another point, never let it go to court.
