They wont , for the simple reason that the Govt does NOT want to Support these Mamis with 2 3 4 5 Children ..its a Social Welfare safety net that has been working for a long time , and the money is coming from Outside the Country .. everyone makes money off of thisOne of the things people keep stepping over is the whole "yeah, but prostitution is legal" quagmire. I'll be the first to say it (I believe), don't be surprised when the gov't. starts diverting their attention towards the whole "legal sex" scene here.
I think it's coming.
Aren’t the políticos often the busiest with Chapiadoras at least I have heard that often and seen them in Santo Domingo. It will be another do as I say not what I do.They wont , for the simple reason that the Govt does NOT want to Support these Mamis with 2 3 4 5 Children ..its a Social Welfare safety net that has been working for a long time , and the money is coming from Outside the Country .. everyone makes money off of this
Turns a desperate mom sometimes into the Biggest Earner in the Household .
Sad as that is , its a fact .
my contention is the Dom govt dont have the Balls to mess with that Apple cart .
The Dom RICH want to keep all their Money . they dont want to just hand it out to the Poor who keep making Babies , because if they did , the Educational system would be the first thing to vastly improved .
But who knows , maybe this New President will do exactly that with the Corruption & Drug money that is Seized .
Nope...if anything, very short term. What about jobs and small businesses? Don't they make out?
I think the explanation is quite simple, at least for this area. The reputation of Sosua internationally, based in part on the many videos on YouTube, is hurting the Dominican Republic and killing Sosua with all but those coming for sex with boys and girls of all ages.I think the DR does what’s ultimately best for tourism. For business. If they think that overall it will bring more tourists they will do that. Or do you think it would be for religious reasons? Or to protect the women especially and then offer them more education? Or would it be for public health reasons?
Last year during the pandemic I went and spent a couple of months in Las Terrenas and I didn’t pay much attention to the scene there. Recently I was there two months again and I was now wondering what had happened with all the working girls as discos and bars still closed at night. Then on my walks on the beach I suddenly began to notice and then noticed it a lot. They where all walking the beach and one almost jumped on me from behind a palm tree lol . I just think some people forget where they are sometimes. How is it possible to control. And making it illegal I doubt will protect the women. That is a typical North American approach. In Europe in many countries it’s legal and this way they are more protected and they can go see a doctor and test for hiv etc. Again the best thing is offering education but we know how that is going. I don’t know how the church here looks at it. I haven’t noticed them talking about it. Some times for sure they play a positive role. It's pretty simple really. The government wants the meat market moved down to the other end of Pedro Clisante. Out of sight - out of mind.
Yeah there is that stretch in Sosua. There is a lot of activity in Bavaro to and a lot online and more spread out. There are some business like that in every tourist town in the country. In the capital there are discos to and the whole chapiadora phenomena. There is so much. It is to some extent part of the culture and not only socioeconomic. My point is just seriously suggesting the government can control it and that they even would want to is ridiculous. Even in Casa de Campo they have their parties. It will never be made illegal. There's a yuge difference between what that small stretch of PC used to look like and girls on the beach in Las Terrenas.
I have been to all the tourist towns here and, with the exception of Boca Chica, none of them can compare to the scene in Sosua. A lot of cities all over the world have "red light districts". That's all the government is trying to do. Other cities have done it and I don't see any reason why Sosua can't either. They've already gone a long way in accomplishing that goal.Yeah there is that stretch in Sosua. There is a lot of activity in Bavaro to and a lot online and more spread out. Yes I think a red light district is a good idea. I would say Boca Chica and around Friusa in Bavaro are similar. But what I meant was the idea of making prostitution illegal. It’s not even the civilized thing to do. The women are much better protected if it’s legal. In Europe it’s legal in most countries. I think maybe all of them. I would imagine even in the DR a woman can go to the police and get help. If it was illegal she couldn’t.I have been to all the tourist towns here and, with the exception of Boca Chica, none of them can compare to the scene in Sosua. I have never heard of any plans by the government to do that. It will never happen. Not in our lifetimes anyway.Yes I think a red light district is a good idea. Besides I am not sure it’s progress making it illegal. Even the most developed countries have prostitution.I have never heard of any plans by the government to do that. It will never happen. Not in our lifetimes anyway.
What kind of help do you think the street girls can get from the police/Yes I think a red light district is a good idea. I would say Boca Chica and around Friusa in Bavaro are similar. Not much but I doubt it helps them making it illegalWhat kind of help do you think the street girls can get from the police/
Who's talking about "confine"? That short stretch of PC will never again be the way it was before. The east end of PC will be the place to go.The gubmint will not be able to confine the chicas to just the east end of town. The entire town is inundated with working girls. From the beach to every single restaurant. When every you see a girl standing in front of a restaurant looking inside , she is not looking at the menu she is looking at the MANu. Cabarete has no shortage of chicas either.
It’s a good idea but does that really change Sosua much. It will always be the DRs “Pataya”. It is what it is. It may even make it even more.Who's talking about "confine"? That short stretch of PC will never again be the way it was before. The east end of PC will be the place to go.
In the eyes of those who are pushing for the change, it will. And there can be no doubt that it will change that stretch of PC. There are no bars or clubs there anymore. Contrary to what seems to be the popular belief here, many Dominicans find Sosua to be an embarrassment. It’s a good idea but does that really change Sosua much. It will always be the DRs “Pataya”.
