In the eyes of those who are pushing for the change, it will. And there can be no doubt that it will change that stretch of PC. There are no bars or clubs there anymore. Contrary to what seems to be the popular belief here, many Dominicans find Sosua to be an embarrassment.
Oh that’s totally true. Most Dominicans don’t like Sosua at all. But I think they are just kicking the can down to the other end of the road.

It’s still going to be the sleaziest town in the Caribbean
Probably. Have you ever considered that some big money has their eyes on that part of PC? They'll let it go completely seedy and in 5-10 years when all those that are there now throw in the towel, they'll swoop in , buy cheap, and renovate the entire stretch. I've seen it happen in many places. South Beach is a good example.

every time I walk down Pedro C. the bars are packed with chicas (lots of Haitians) , they are on the corners, at the casino, all over town. Super entertaining to see. However like a sweet desert, a little is enough.

It seems to me if they wanted to they could easily decrease it dramatically by rounding up the illegal Haitians in Sosua or do all these people typically have cedulas.

Nope...if anything, very short term.

Wow, You couldn't be more wrong. I could list hundreds of temporary construction related jobs needed to develop and build that project over 18 to 24 months. I could list hundreds of permanent jobs that will exist once the project is complete and running. Not to mention the impact on hundreds of peripheral suppliers and vendors.

Real jobs with health insurance, people providing for their families. And don't misquote me, I'm not saying it will "save" the North Coast. That's a favorite game played here on DR1. But those jobs count. Why do you think a President shows up and cuts a ribbon? It's so he can say "I created 400 jobs". Because those jobs mean something to his constituents.

Some of us been saying that for a long while .
IF, IF there are investors with Deep Pockets, with long term Plans , they will run the town into the ground first , before they make their move .
Swoop in as you say and buy out that whole section of PC.
The only problem is its been about 10 years since we speculated on t hat , so these " Investors" must have a LOT of time on their hands .
Maybe its for their Grand children . cuz its not happening in our Lifetimes .

Even if they remove the illegal ones, there are plenty of Haitian girls there that have visas.

Don't forget the jobs that will be created if even one new hotel is located here and more homes are needed to accommodate the increase in foreigners coming to live full and part time.

There is no doubt job creation is in the president's mind.

Yes, the daily DR1 news for one. Discussions on this board for another. Not to mention what is said in news reports from the international media
