The days where Sosua was a good place to find a lady has been gone for years. I love Sosua for what it is...an average little village that is moderately safe. Where one can wander around, have a few drinks, visit a few average eateries and bum around on a half decent beach. You know, old person stuff. Want to find a nice lady, get out and about in the country...there are a few out there.

The idea that "families" are lined up waiting to move into Sosua is nonsense created by the blue noses to sell the idea of moving the girls.
There are no families.
Besides, if your interest in making the town more attractive is genuine what better way than to have a beautiful clean beach?
The beach is the real attraction for Sosua and the city has purposefully let it run down.
What is unique about our beach is the close by tree line so you have a choice between cooking in the tropical sun or sitting in the palm tree shade.

My view is that the "investors" will take a bath after being sucked into a foolish unworkable idea.
This country has got to be the graveyard of poor business decision.
It has to be a tough pill to see the girls engaged in a perfectly legal activity that offends their moral sensibilities and be powerless so they come up with this plan.
Lets leave the girls alone and fix the beach.

Nothing has changed on sosua Beach last 20 yrs Beach front sand comes and goes yrly , except the run down shacks look older and thicker coats of paint holding it together. Times are changing one swift hit from backhoe will take care of that in due time.

Which will mean a lack of access to the beach in short order. Corps win again.

But it's use will be restricted. Mark my words...nary a Dominican. Once the bigs build...that will be it.
They've already announced they will build a "square" and relocate some of the vendors there. 60 meters from mean high tide is public property. They will never be able to keep Dominicans of the beach.

Apparently you are selective in your reading. You seem to have ignored the recent threads about the upswing in property sales and thd purchase/construction of apartments and houses

A lot of Dominicans are discovering Sosua as a result of the curfew. Dominicans have families, too.

The new highway from Santiago, which only take one hour to get to Sosua, will be bringing many new wealthy Dominicans to Sosua on weekends. Many of them already own weekend homes here and will stay until monday morning and drive back for work. That's the long term plan. Nobody ever said that Sosua was going to be an American family tourist town. It is shifting into a more family oriented town and the price of real estate and lack of accomodations proves it.

I guess you never went on sosua beach on weekends..full of Dominican families Been like that forever.
Yes, and during curfew, the wealthy ones, that can afford to spend some money in a bar/restaurant, and without a cooler, have been coming to Cabarete.

Some observations:

Things move slowly in the DR.

The Sosua Beach plans are very old and word on the street shows they are close to being enacted. Sosua beach will not be closed. That was never part of the plan. Removing the beach shacks and housing a few restaurants and shops at either end is part of the plan. Most vendors will no longer have businesses on Sosua beach

The Pedro Clisante plan to move whore mongers and their suppliers east is rather old as well. Back to at least when Leonel was president. That stumbling plan is actually under way. The government is not stopping prostitution. Just moving it out of sight.

Whore mongers are bit like cigarette smokers. They think they can do what they like wherever they like. Regulations sometimes change things even for those things that are not illegal.

Changes have been happening in Sosua/Cabarete for some time as well. There are far more expat and snowbird residences in both areas than 10 years ago while Punta Cana sucked up the tourists.

It isn't just out of country tourism that will benefit by the hooker scene moved to the east end of PC. It is Dominicans from Santiago/Santo Domingo, as well as the increasing number of Expats and Snowbirds that are in the mix as well. An increase in out of country Tourism? That is hard to bring back to the north coast in major ways. Once the flights go away it is hard to bring them back again.

Players with big money development ideas got delayed by CV19, stopped by the government at La Boca, and put plans on hold to rebuild a resort on Cabarete beach as well as the "City of Dreams" just west of Sosua Abajo. Lots of development in Los Castillos despite the pandemic. Will those development plans return now that the curfew should end any second in Puerto Plata Province. Only time will tell,

You guessed wrong and it has not been been like "that" forever. There are way, way more Dominicans coming here from Santiago than before the curfew.
