Not restricted, but I'm sure the new condo/hotel will enforce rules for the beach area. As in "no glass,.etc". That's good. right? Maybe a lifeguard. That's good. right? And I guarantee you they won't be dumping raw sewage into a shallow trench . That's progress in the right direction for a developing country.

Besides, I think the vendors had a pretty good run. The landowner was extremely gracious towards them, for many years. The vendors should be thanking that family, not getting ready to riot because the owner wants to use their own property

Turning Sosua beach into a generic beach for the rich, just like many of the others in the Caribbean. While what you said is true, it sad that another beach turns into a corporation. Like I have said, I have seen it happen to other beaches around the Caribbean....it never turns out well for local people. It is what it is, the people lose again.

What about jobs and small businesses? Don't they make out?

Looks like they were waiting for that lawsuit to fail and the new zoning regulations to take effect. I'm sitting back to see what happens next. Will the authorities move forward? Will the mayor be able to keep his disco open? Or will he be happy with the club in the Playa Chiquita Casino? Can't wait to see what happens next!
Wait! The mayor also owns the Latin Club in the casino?

So then we are debating Semantics .. and some of us know each other personally. so I KNOW you know your stuff. as does Seamonkey who owned a business for YEARS in Sosua .

So. They have always been there , so you agree its not a NEW TREND ?
which is what some people are trying to claim in addition to trying to claim that THEY are the ones Snapping up the $150K Condos .
If they were there all along WHY in the world would they WAIT for the Prices to go UP, and THEN buy ?

again, it would defy all logic ,

So , I KNOW you Know the Condo Business ... please tell us WHO is buying them ..what demographic group.

I think like anything, it takes awhile for people to want to make the move. Playa Dorada is a perfect example. It was run down, needing a makeover, mostly older AI's. Then Riviera Azul built some condos (I think they were the first), people started getting interested. Blu Jacktar renovated, built a couple condo towers, there was more interest in PD, and all of sudden there's penthouses selling for a million plus. At Blu JackTar, it helped that a well known Dominican family was involved. So wealthy Dominicans wanted to be a part of it. And Playa Dorada continues to get better all the time, except the pandemic put a damper on things.

I'm not saying there will be million dollar penthouses on Sosua Beach. But it's the same concept. Sosua Beach is run down, and in bad need of a makeover. If people see some improvements, and a nice development they can brag to their friends about, there will be Domincan buyers.

Some people, like whoremongers, want to miss the point. They also think of Sosua as one section of one street.
You can move them around, and around somemore... and pretend they dont exist but....Whats legal in the whole country ,certainly is in Sosua, the smilemakers I mean...........

Moving them out of sight is part of the goal. Just one part. It is not about pretending they don't exist. The practice can still happen,
just in a slightly different spot. Lawsuits to "stay put" were lost with that part of the legality of moving businesses is settled.
Now it is time to move on, in a manner of speaking.

I guess some people just don't see the big picture for one tiny part of Sosua. Don't worry, you can still got the smile you crave.

I was last in that area over 15 years ago before there was any scene I noticed. I imagine "it is all good" there for whoremongers after the huge growth over time. Since that is not my thing, the whoremongers will have to respond as to how great it is. Smiles are available just about anywhere, no?

From what I've heard, it's larger than before, but the only place that compares to Sosua is Boca Chica.
I think Sosua is slightly better than Boca Chica if that’s possible lol Well I mean in Bavaro I think it is a lot bigger but maybe spread out more and as it has so much other tourism maybe not as dominant.

From what I've heard, there's an area on the northern end of Bavaro where some very nice clubs and restaurants have opened that's become popular.

One of the things people keep stepping over is the whole "yeah, but prostitution is legal" quagmire. I'll be the first to say it (I believe), don't be surprised when the gov't. starts diverting their attention towards the whole "legal sex" scene here.
I think it's coming.

Nobody is getting rid of hookers. They are just being moved to a more out of sight area. What happens to the properties that are going to be vacated is anyone's guess. Is it a tall order just to do that? For sure, it has been YEARS in the making, (or is that years in cumming?) ...

Prostitution is not illegal. As JD suggested, is that a forever and ever thing? Years ago there was some interest in making soliciting a prostitute, as in being a "John" illegal. Advertising prostitution and pimping is illegal. But that is an entirely different story than what is going on in Sosua between the beach and that very small part of Pedro Clisante that gets the whoremongers going, in two manners of speaking these days.

I think the DR does what’s ultimately best for tourism. For business. If they think that overall it will bring more tourists they will do that. Or do you think it would be for religious reasons? Or to protect the women especially and then offer them more education? Or would it be for public health reasons?
