apart from saying that you are really old, you also like to draw conclusions and judgements and show how witty you are.
So, you're saying that a dollar tip is useless? are you trying to slight me? did I mention that i tipped a dollar?

You must be bored!
Nah, he is just a rabblerouser, a flamer. Probably he was in club Fed.

Many Dominicans, probably mostly younger ones, like to put a $20 dollar bill or similar in the protective cover on their cell phone. A status symbol, I guess? Haven't seen any do the same with 1000RD! So to tie this back in to the original topic, perhaps tipping in dollars at the AIs is preferred by the staff to some extent.

Even a child would be insulted if you gave him a peso. Even the garbage Halls mints are now something like 2 for 5! Dollar tippers in DR are still trying to pay conchos 25 pesos to go to Janet’s 🤣
All depends where you are, I guess. I know where your world is in the DR, but have you ever travelled to any other small towns in the country?
And don't you be dissing my Halls mints. :ROFLMAO:

I don’t think they mind at all. They prefer a 100 pesos to a one Dollar, don’t you think?
Stop thinking the dollar is a status symbol or something, it’s just money.
And do not give them Euro coins please.

Why would thy prefer a foreign currency? They'd have to go through the hassle of exchanging it all the time(?).

Who tips in PC with Pesos? Answer Dominicans. You have been here long enough to know who their preference would be to deal with, Dominicans or Americans when it come to tipping. And many Dominicans don't tip at all at AI's. As for changing money that is never a problem for a Dominican if you frequent Exchange houses in PC you always see resort workers with US Dollars...........

American and Canadian coins are also useless in the DR.

There is a man in Puerto Plata who will accept coins from shoeshine boys, etc but doesn't give them much. He accumulates the coins and somehow manages to exchange them for paper money.

Well, now you're talking about who they would prefer to deal with. Whenever I went to an AI, I always tipped in pesos. A hundred peso bill will make them happier than a $1 dollar bill.

And probably get even more Pesos the next day or next week.
On the exchange? The rate changes very little on a daily or even weekly basis. Lately, it isn't even changing much on a monthly basis. Sure, there's plently of places to change dollars or euros, but most are rip-offs except for CaribeExpress, but who wants to stand in line there every day changing currency?

In my time (maybe about 15 years or so) we had to impress upon our clients (Canadians) about not leaving coins. It was not an easy task as we are well known for our loonies and our toonies.

For others it is nothing less than inevitable.

A peso to a Dominican is the same as a dollar to an American. A dollar tip for them is like you getting a 55 dollar tip in the states.

Get away from an environment influenced by dollars, and you quickly see how valuable a peso is to Dominicans.
Say what?
We used to say something along those lines back in the nineties.
I'm not exactly up to date on the rate of exchange these days but...
I suspect you might be dating yourself JD.

I still haven’t read the reason why a poor bartender would prefer Euro’s, Dollars, Swedish crowns, Danish crowns, Swiss francs. (Yes, not all European countries use the Euro).
To have to change the currency on a daily basis?
Line up daily to get a thousand or two thousand pesos?
The colmado won’t accept foreign money.

I mentioned Euro coins because for one reason or another the Euro has higher value coins than the US Dollar (Canadian I don’t know).
Giving a two euro coin is as good as useless.
I you want to give a Euro coin give him or her a five Euro Van Gogh or Rembrandt coin. I would buy it without delay.

Yes it will, but a $10 bill will make them even happier. And they get a lot of them and a lot higher too..............
