I don’t think they mind at all. They prefer a 100 pesos to a one Dollar, don’t you think?
Stop thinking the dollar is a status symbol or something, it’s just money.
And do not give them Euro coins please.
I have seen enough people put US currency in their cell phone protector that I assume it's a status symbol of some kind. Maybe they do the same with some other foreign currencies or DR pesos but I haven't noticed that. Should it be a status symbol? In my mind, no. It's also a status symbol for younger men to leave the big sticker on the bills of their baseball caps...don't understand that one either. And yes,100 pesos or one dollar is just simple math as others have mentioned.

I had to smile when I read this, because my oldest grandson keeps a 200 peso bill in his (clear) phone case. He likes the Mirabel photo and the color of the bill. People are always asking him what it is.

I wonder where you see these people with dollar notes in their phone.
It must be this :

We have a huge family with a lot of cousins and nephew etc and this is the first I hear of this phenomenon.

That makes two of us. I don't know of any Dominican that thinks there anything special about dollar bills except maybe a Benjamin(?).

There are cell phone cases with that design.

If I'm ever fooled into thinking that's a real $100 in someone's phone case, just shoot me. Nobody's gonna cut out the corner of a real one for their camera! As far as others not noticing this, maybe it's a North Coast trend (LOL)

The 100 bill with Blue stripe has so many safety features , one would have to be a Fool to accept a fake one .
the best of which is the paper clip test . No way a fake one passes that test. Just learned about it not that long ago.

Not sure where you are from, but in the USA restaurant owners get away with paying their waiters way below minimum wage and therefore tipping is absolutely mandatory.

Mandatory ?
As in you legally have to tip ?
I dont think so .. you can leave a Penny and walk out the door , no one can stop you .

But in the DR , you legally have to pay the 18% Tax, which includes such fees.

Are you sure about that? The ITBIS is 18% and it goes to the govt to waste. The 10% is the gratuity which is added on where service may be given.
