tanned breasts are far nicer than half pale-half baked ones!

as for the bottoms, i think that's a whole other string...naked sunbathing is a whole other ball game. and a white bottom isnt that bad!!!

Azabache - the clip is hilarious!!!

i think people need to realize, specifically to those men and women alike who have a problem with topless bathers, that yes it may be cultural or it may be for an even tan, irregardless of the cause, they are just breasts and people shouldn't be so uptight about it. as i said if the law exists then uphold it, if there's no sign posted than you don't know. throughout the country there must be topless beaches and cover-all beaches and those that its a choice. if you dont like what you see, stop looking or change beaches!! but its not for anyone to judge!

funnyyale - im not trying to start an uprising of any sort BUT how is topless unbathing a commercial purpose??? In some parts of the world, women never wear shirts (cultural tradition) and in parts of the world topless tanning is part of the culture and is 100% innocent tanning. and what about women who dont have kids or dont intend on ever having kids or the women who simply enjoy tanning topless?
thats an unjust comment to make. if you were to go to a topless beach, YOU would be the outcast!!

I dont see it that anyone views breasts as "obscene" but I do think one has to respect/observe the laws /customs in the countries to which one travels.

As the adage goes..."When in Rome....."

I've been following two threads about topless sunbathing and if the DR does indeed have laws against this they should have the tour operators tell the bus loads of tourist arriving each week but they don't and there are no signs up that I have seen.

So how in the world would tourists know if it's against some law? They got on a plane and went to the beach. Are they supposed to run around the country to find out if people have hangups about breasts?

I've seen them at Sosua beach as well as in Playa Dorada beach. It's not like these people are playing volleyball, they are laying in the sun getting a tan.

So if it was that big of a deal I'm sure it would be part of the orientation when they arrive.

True, but some people dont travel with tour operators and go the independent route.

You took it the wrong way...I am not disagreeing w/ you. I know that it is normal and I am all for public breastfeeding and I respect women who go topless to the beach.

How about this one, there are no signs on the beach and unless they swan over they must have gotten on an airplane especially those that come from Europe and think nothing of it.

Para los habla mas.....

Ok, let me ask the ones who see nothing wrong with people going topless in a place they are not supposed to:

Do you have any kids?.

If yes, how do you explain to your 5 and 7 year old, on vacation with you, when they ask you why some of the women are topless?.

And if you have kids that young, YOU know they just don't stop with just ONE question!.

And please don't tell me any one of you haven't seen a few topless women in places where they were not supposed to be topless!.

If it's a a place where it's allowed, more power to them but if it's a a place where it's not allowed, trust me, they would be the first one complaining if a guy take his shorts off and shows his "johnson".

that reminds me - once i was vacationing with girlfriends on a polish seaside, we were all eighteen and we all went on a beach topless. as it happens there was a group of schoolkids lead by two extremely ugly old bats passing us by. bats got quite upset but boys were very happy! :cheeky::cheeky::cheeky:

miguel - i think in many culture being naked in front of your kids in normal, a friend who was a baby-sitter for a finish family saw whole families (kids included) in a sauna (lots of people in a countryside have private saunas)- naked. apparently it's not a big deal in there.

guess you'd just have to say: "this lady likes it that was because she wants to brown all over. and no, tyour momma does not care about that". ;)

Not all airplanes are affiliated with tour operators if you want to speak about semantics...and some travellers who travel on scheduled carriers dont attend briefings in AI's...so this isnt about swimming over or going by yola, nor does it matter the country of origin of the tourist...quite frankly, it has no impact on me, I just think some tourists do abroad what they WOULDNT do at home and I dont believe that is correct...anyway, each to their own!

After reading a bit of this thread every now and then, I just realize how hypocritical is th Dominican society in general ! I am perfectly happy down here, but I am so glad to steer clear of that hypocritical Dominican mentality...

Come on, ladies, show your breasts, and forget about those hypocritical bastards !!!

Does that mean then that you wouldn't take 5 and 7 year olds to an exhibition of classical art? We took a bunch of kids ages of 2, 5, 6, 7 and 11 to the Louvre exhibition in SD's Parque Independencia which included titties and bottoms by the likes of such Euro-perves as Rubens, Ingres, Chasseriau (who was actually born in the DR, but his Dad was French so that must explain it), and Boucher.

Although there was a mild degree of pointing and giggling to start with, the fact that we adults did not make a big deal of it meant that they realised it was normal, and a depiction of beauty. Even that saucy painting from the School of Fontainbleau of two po-faced women, where one is pinching the other's nipple!

After scouring the internet for information on topless bathing, i have a question for all those who are adamantly against it and claim it is a law...based on what i've seen on many DR websites, there is in fact NO law stating that going topless is illegal (it is not even a law) rather a custom that is simply frowned upon, bc DR women dont normally go topless. If I am wrong, which i may in fact be (along with MANY websites), please show me this ''infamous'' law. otherwise women, it says you are more than welcome to tan topless on the beach and at some pools in resorts (i've tanned in both scenarios). Most places don't mind topless women because although it stems from cultural differences, so many tourists from all different backgrounds make up a large part of the economy. and what objective would it serve to turn them away!!??
