When 8% of your GDP ( I believe its closer to 10%) takes this kind of a hit and with little relief in sight for tourism (my personal opinion is that it will take until November of 2021 to stabilize) the real damage to the economy is still to come.

Tourism is the top generator of foreign exchange. With the DR's external debt due in dollars, the DR will need to buy/source dollars en masse offshore. Economically speaking, the bottom line effect of that will be a much weaker peso and the likelihood of increased taxes.

Respectfully,

absolutely agree inflation will rise (RD peso already lost 10% this year ) , so its time to diversify your portfolio and buy physical gold/silver also bitcoin as hedge to protect your wealth . it my humble opinion

I really don’t get why your bashing Canada? I never said tourism is limited to Canada anywhere Eh!

Not bashing.
The limitations and restrictions put on Canadians traveling was imposed by their own government. Not RD.
Canadians should take issue with the sanctions placed upon them by their ruling persons.

Why should we take issue? Most are fine with handling of situation, post was to point out airlines helping people feel safer to travel to DR not politics of who is right.

If YOU choose not to take issue, that is fine. It is your prerogative.
Others are impeded in traveling due to the quarantine imposed by the Canadian government on it's citizens who do wish to travel abroad.
I did not invoke politics, but if you believe the quarantine imposed upon Canadian international travelers is political in nature, well than this is your belief, not mine.
Not everything is political in nature.
I am not Canadian, so this does not cause conflicts for myself.

Where do you think most of those A1 tourists come from?
The USA is the source of most AI tourists from what I have read.
People that have one or two weeks of vacation per year allowed by their jobs and they spend it in an AI.

True , but North Coast is exception to the rule.
I am talking about the country as a whole and its overall revenue and hence the governments obvious focus on reviving AI tourism. Not just one part of the country. The new president has a bit more concern with the north coast since there is a nice chunk of land that is in the family that used to have an active AI resort on it. The snowbirds are not a big consideration in the government's scheme of things.

Second wave is starting to hit Europe and New York is starting to get second wave. I think domestic tourists will have to fill the hotels this winter. The second wave should be hitting the RD in time for Christmas peak in travel does not bode well for the tourism industry this winter
We are still in the first wave when it comes to CV19. Social distancing just prolongs the wave for months to years.

The RD is about 2/3 months behind Europe and New York so if it follows the same path second wave will be hitting RD in December/January, that kinda stuffs the winter tourism peak in the RD

The so called experts are saying that with an effective vaccine and enough people taking it, normalcy could be achieved about 2 years from now when it comes to CV19
.
That is in 2022 in the best case scenario from so-called experts.

I have no idea why people think there will be an effective vaccine from everything I have read about CV19.

I have ZERO hope that any vaccine will be long lasting.... a patch at best , to date.

I have little faith in the death stats..... other than the US has 4% of the world's people and 20% of the deaths
Might be that the overweight, under exercised population get hit harder....
add a fragmented hospital system to that.

RD isn't much better... lots of overweight.... lots of diabetes.... not a great hospital base - fraught w/ problems

I do think the situation is improving....life is close to normal for many
We'll see how 9pm and 7pm work out

But the Chicken Littles are pushing the 2nd wave theory. They must like to see misery

Could be, but in the cooler months many Americans suffer from lower levels of vitamin D. African Americans in particular are hit hard with this because their skin needs a stronger sun to create the same level of vitamin D as whiter people do, this is especially the case on the northern half of the country. Taking daily vitamin D supplements help alleviate this deficiency.

As for what does Covid has to do with vitamin D?

Well...
