Tourism sector leaders urge government to approve protocols

Businessman Joel Santos, a former president of the National Association of Hotels and Tourism of the Dominican Republic (Asonahores), said on Thursday, 4 June 2020 that it is extremely important that the certification of the protocols to reopen tourism activity in July include the entire chain of the sector.

Santos, of Coral Hospitality Corporation, urged advancing on the protocols to ready the industry to reopen this July. As reported in El Caribe, several tourism sub-sectors complain the Ministry of Tourism has been slow in directing actions that are vital for the reopening.

As reported, Asonahores had delivered recommendations for the protocols several weeks ago to the High Commission for the Prevention of Coronavirus and the Ministry of Tourism. These were not returned until Tuesday, 3 June. The government needs to make official the approved protocols.
